🔥 CAN A CHIMNEY CATCH ON FIRE? 🔥

Yes — chimney fires are more common than you might think. The chimney itself usually isn’t what catches fire. Instead, chimney fires are often caused by creosote buildup, poor burning practices, damaged chimney components, or improper installation.

🪵 Burn the right wood.
Burn only properly seasoned, dry firewood. Wet or unseasoned wood creates more smoke and can contribute to dangerous creosote buildup inside your chimney.

🧹 Have your chimney inspected annually.
Regular inspections can identify creosote buildup, cracked or deteriorated flue tiles, damaged liners, and other problems that could create a fire hazard.

🔥 Make repairs before you burn.
A damaged chimney liner can allow extreme heat, sparks, and combustion gases to reach areas where they don't belong. Problems found during an inspection should be corrected before using the fireplace again.

📏 Proper installation matters.
Fireplaces, stoves, chimneys, and venting systems must have proper clearance from combustible materials. Even an older chimney that has been used for years can have hidden safety issues.

The best defense against a chimney fire? Regular inspections, proper maintenance, and good burning habits.

🔥 Fireplace season will be here before you know it. Make sure your chimney is ready!

❄️ “SNOW, SLEET & SURPRISES” ARE HEADED OUR WAY! 🔥

The Farmers’ Almanac 2026–2027 winter forecast is out, and Illinois is expected to see a cold winter with recurring snow, sudden cold snaps, and plenty of swings between thawing and freezing. 🥶🌨️

🔥 Translation: You’re going to want that fireplace ready to go — and often.

Those freeze-thaw cycles can be especially hard on chimneys. Moisture can enter small cracks in masonry and expand when it freezes, potentially turning minor problems into bigger repairs.

Don’t wait until the first cold snap to get your chimney ready!

Now is the time to:
🔥 Schedule your annual chimney inspection & sweeping
🧱 Check for cracked or deteriorating masonry
🏠 Make sure your chimney cap and crown are in good condition
🔧 Take care of needed repairs before winter weather arrives

📅 Appointments fill quickly once cooler weather hits — schedule early and beat the fall rush!
