Three spots on your house worth checking this week:

The dryer vent. Make sure the flap closes all the way. The spots where pipes, cables, and the AC line go through the wall. The bottom of your exterior doors. If you can see daylight, the door sweep needs replacing.

These are some of the most common ways insects and mice get in.

A warm October afternoon is when you will see it.

Stink bugs and lady beetles gather on the sunny side of the house and look for any crack they can fit into. Check around window frames, siding joints, and vents on that side of your home.

The gaps you find now are the same ones they will use to get inside.

Pest problems at work do not wait for a slow week.

We work with offices, storefronts, and other businesses as well as homes. Fall is when many buildings start to see mice and overwintering insects move in, especially near loading doors, break rooms, and storage areas.

If your building needs a look, send us a message and we will set up an inspection.

Where do you keep the dog food?

An open bag of pet food or bird seed in the garage is an easy meal for mice. Move it into a sealed plastic or metal bin with a tight lid, and sweep up any spilled seed.

Take away the food source and your garage becomes a lot less interesting to rodents.

Seeing more spiders inside this fall?

Spiders follow their food. When insects gather around your foundation, porch lights, and garage, spiders follow them. Cut down the insects and you can cut down the spiders too.

A few things that help: switch porch lights to warm-toned bulbs, clear webs from corners and eaves, and keep stored boxes off the basement floor.

Before you rake this weekend, think about where the leaves end up.

Leaf piles pushed up against the house hold moisture and give insects and mice cover right next to your foundation. Rake them out into the yard or bag them instead.

While you are out there, pull mulch back a few inches from the siding and check that your gutters are draining.

Hearing scratching in the walls at night?

This time of year, that is often mice or rats that have moved into a wall, attic, or crawl space for the winter. Other signs include small droppings, chewed food packaging, and shredded insulation.

The sooner it gets checked, the easier it usually is to deal with. Send us a message and we will take a look.

Fall inspections are on the schedule now.

If you have noticed stink bugs on the siding, spiders in the basement, or signs of mice in the garage, now is the time to get it looked at. We inspect the outside of your home, show you what we find, and recommend a plan based on what is actually going on.

Send us a message to get on the calendar.

Your garage is the easiest way into your house for mice.

A quick fall checklist:
Check the rubber seal along the bottom of the garage door for gaps or chew marks.
Move bird seed, grass seed, and pet food into sealed plastic or metal bins.
Clear clutter off the floor along the walls.
Keep the door between the garage and house closed.

Small changes like these can make your garage a lot less inviting.

What happens on a quarterly pest control visit?

Your technician inspects the outside of your home first, looking at the foundation, doors, windows, and the spots where pests tend to gather. Depending on what they find, treatment may include the exterior perimeter and any problem areas you point out inside.

Regular visits mean small issues can get caught early, before they turn into bigger ones. Fall is a good time to start.
