Most people assume my job is about dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning bathrooms.
The truth is… that’s only a small part of what I do.
Over the years, I’ve been invited into people’s lives during some of their hardest moments. I’ve cleaned homes where families were navigating terminal illnesses, recovering from surgery, mourning loved ones, struggling with anxiety or depression, raising children on their own, or simply trying to hold everything together when life felt overwhelming.
Sometimes I’m the first person they’ve truly talked to in days.
I’ve listened to stories filled with laughter, heartbreak, fear, hope, and everything in between.
I’ve watched children grow up.
I’ve celebrated milestones with families.
I’ve built friendships with clients I never expected to have.
And then there are the pets.
They greet me at the door every visit, follow me from room to room, wait for their treats, and become part of my weekly routine. Before long, they don’t feel like someone else’s pets—they feel like old friends. One of the most difficult parts of this career is watching them grow old, hearing that they’re sick, and eventually walking into a home where they’re no longer there. It never gets easier. Loving them, even in such a small way, is one of the greatest gifts of this job… and saying goodbye is one of the hardest.
People often apologize for the condition of their homes.
But I’ve never believed a messy house defines a person.
More often than not, it’s simply a reflection of someone carrying more than anyone realizes.
Cleaning isn’t just about making a house sparkle.
It’s about giving people one less thing to worry about. It’s about creating a space where they can breathe a little easier. It’s about showing kindness without judgment and reminding someone they don’t have to face everything alone.
This career has allowed me to witness incredible strength, heartbreaking loss, resilience, and unconditional love.
I don’t just leave with clean supplies and an empty vacuum.
I leave carrying pieces of people’s stories in my heart.
And despite the emotional weight that comes with it…
I wouldn’t trade this work for anything🫶💙
