What it does well
• Softens fabrics effectively by dissolving leftover detergent and mineral residue that makes clothes and towels feel stiff or scratchy.
Many people prefer it to commercial softeners because it doesn't leave a coating that reduces absorbency (especially helpful for towels).
• Removes odors better than detergent alone in many cases-sweat, mildew/sour smells from wet laundry left too long, smoke, etc. The vinegar smell itself rinses away completely.
• Cuts soap/softener buildup and can help clothes look brighter or less dingy over time.
• Cheap, widely available, non-toxic, and hypoallergenic for most people.
Typical effective dose: about ½ cup in the fabric softener dispenser or during the rinse cycle for a normal load.
