It’s Spa season part 5 in a series of information about spa pool care and products.

Today it’s CLEANING YOUR SPA 🌸

FRESH FILL
Before you empty the spa you need to add a pipe cleaner this removes the oils and any organic matter in the spa pipework.

SWIRL AWAY
Add 150ml swirl away to the spa, run the pump and jets for at least 10 minutes, drain and rinse with clean water.

CLEAN THE FILTER
While the swirl away is doing its job you can clean the filter. The filter should be cleaned every 6 weeks when using chlorine or Bromine to last years. Clean more often for no chlor options.

You can soak the filters or spray on the cleaner. If you use filter renew you rinse the filter then spray on Filter Renew, soak for 15 minutes. Rinse off with the garden hose.

💦 MagicVac - Manual Spa Pool Vacuum

The MagicVac is operated by placing your thumb over the ergonomic air hole located at the top of the Vac, submerging it near the area you need cleaned, then releasing your thumb. A rush of water will fill the clear UV stabilized chamber. Raise the full chamber above the water line and allow it to drain. Virtually all debris will remain trapped in the built-in removable filter. Detach the End Cap with a simple quarter turn and empty the debris. The MagicVac picks up sand, pebbles, even small rocks! You will be able to reach areas in excess of 7 feet away with the telescoping aluminum pole. The MagicVac is completely serviceable and weighs less than 2lbs.
The MagicVac's normal length is 1.35metres.
When fully extended it exceeds 2.16metres for those hard to reach areas.

Today its NO CHLOR Spas , there is no short and simple way of explaining this but get asked a lot so here goes.

We get asked a lot for ways to treat the spa water without chlorine or Bromine

The water is effectively hot water and can grow bacteria faster than a pool.
We have a few options here at Splash to cater for those of you who would prefer the no Chlor way.

AQUASPA
I have used this product and the water is like fresh water.

SILVER ION Purifier for Hot Springs Spas

OZONE

It’s Spa season part 4 in a series on information about spa pool care and products.

Today it’s BALANCING YOUR SPA

We recommend balancing the spa water once a month. This means Alkalinity, PH and Calcium hardness.

You can do this using test strips usually sold in packs of 50 or bring about a cup full of water in to us here and we will run your result through the computer. This gives you a printed instruction on what and how much to add to to the balance perfect.

If you use the test strips at home remember always start with the Alkalinity then PH then Calcium last.

* High pH and Alkalinity bring them down slowly, don’t try to bump it down quickly or you could crash the PH.

* PPM = parts per million
* Measures are based on the Bioguard products.

Ideal levels you are trying to acheive are as follows.

* Alkalinity 125-150 ideal is 150

* PH 7.4-7.6 ideal is 7.5

* Calcium hardness 100-250 ideal is 200

🆙 ALKALINITY UP (increases the Alkalinity more and PH a little)

18g per 1000ltrs will raise the PH by 10PPM the cap holds 25g

⬆️* PH UP when you need to bring the PH up more than the Alkalinity.
The cap holds 30g
Bioguard Spa Comfort Up pH Increaser 500gm

⬇️* PH & ALKALINITY DOWN / DECREASE remember to do this in parts no more than 30g per 1000ltrs. Will bring down the PH more than the Alkalinity.

👍Lets start with the Bromine Tablets
Add one pill per week per 1000 litres to the skimmer or load up a bromine floater. A bromine floater can give you about 5 weeks before needing a reload. Great for holiday homes.
Bromine is softer on the skin than just chlorine on its own, it is a very effective sanitiser.
You do still need to oxidise the pool weekly with Armour or Purity.

👍Bioguard Symmetry
Controls bacteria and algae in spas.
Ideal for indoor spas, and pools with attached spas because of reduced odours.
Makes optimum use of sanitising ability.
650g/kg available Bromine and 280g/kg available Chlorine present as Bromochlorodimethyhydantoin (BCDMH).
Effective over a wider pH range than chlorine alone.
Less odour and slower dissolving than chlorine tablets.
Chlorine content of tablet serves to regenerate bromine.

(20G) are effective as a spa and hot tub water sanitiser. They have been designed to keep spa and hot tub water sparkling clean by continuous treatment through a feeder (brominator) or the skimmer.

Shock rate is 10-17 grams per 1000 litres

Controls all algae and bacteria.

Will not cloud.
No residue.
Easy to use and no pre-dissolving required.
Stabilised to increase the longevity of chlorine.

Now lets compare this to Crystal Water Spa Chlor

Dose rate for this is 20-25g daily per 1000 litres
Shock is 50-75g

Crystal Water Spa Chlor is an effective and convenient aid to prevent growth of bacteria and algae in your spa pool.

OK so you are still with me here well done. I will add to use your test strips to keep a eye on the chlorine levels, balance the pH, Alkalinity and Calcium monthly. We test water here, this makes it easy to keep a good healthy balance. you get a print out of how much of what the spa needs. We will need to know how many litres the spa water is.

When you add chlorine of any kind open the spa lid and run the jets for about 10 minutes especially when you shock it.

If you end up with high chlorine run the jets to bring it down.
