Here are some of the wee faces who have helped to balance the crazy.

We muzzle Norma when she is off lead or when around other dogs - not because she is dangerous, but because she is a dog.
She is SUPER quick (cos she's a greyhound) and she startles very easily. She is the sweetest, loving, and shy girl but she could do some serious damage if things went pear shaped, and we know that there is always that possibility.
Muzzling her means that she can enjoy her outings more because we feel more relaxed and she is protected in case something goes wrong.

Whether we like it or not, the season is changing and it's a great time to have your fire swept and checked.

We've already come across at least a dozen unsafe fires this year, and we know there are likely many more out there.

Having it swept and checked by a professional is the best way to ensure you have a safe and efficient fire for when the colder weather arrives.

Our pricing is $100 per fire located within for the Dunedin area.

Tips from a Sweep.

Good firewood isn't just about price or moisture content.
It's also the type of wood and the size of the piece.

We always recommend softwoods like Radiata, Oregon or Larch and the ideal thickness of each piece should be no more than your calf. The bigger the piece of wood, the more the fire cools when it is added, and the longer it takes for it to begin heating again. Smaller pieces of wood catch quickly, and there is not as much lag in the fires performance.

We're all about people getting the best from their fuel and their fire, and accurate information can be hard to find. Below is a link to two info sheets on our website which explain the most common of types of firewood usually available in Dunedin and how to use a solid fuel fire cleanly and efficiently.

I hope that they help to keep you warm and safe this coming heating season.
~ Krystal.

I've been working in solid fuel heating for over 20 years and my spidy sensors are telling me that it's likely to be a very busy season for all home heating services.

Weather, electricity costs, and deferred servicing because of the cost of living means that the demand for sweeping, firewood, and electrical heating services could easily backlog very quickly come the first hint of autumn. This would put a lot of pressure on those of us at the coal face (so to speak), as we are fully aware that people need to be able to heat their homes.

My advice would be to please have your home heating serviced when you're less likely to use it. It helps us from blowing out, and makes sure you have safe and efficient heating ready to use when you need it.

🙏 Krystal.

When was the last time you had your home heating serviced?

I've been working in this industry for over 20 years and my spidy sensors are telling me that it's likely to be a very, very busy year for home heating services. Weather, electricity costs, and deferred servicing because of the cost of living means that demand could easily out strip availability by the end of "summer".

My advice would be to have your home heating serviced now, while you're less likely to need it. We have slots available at the moment, so please don't wait to book.

Happy New Year everyone. We wish you all good things for 2026. ~ Krystal, Nic & Norma.

This fella is becoming very friendly! I didn't encourage it with food or do anything other than stop and marvel at its presence.
Maybe it was just interested in my red finger nails, but it definitely was the best Christmas greeting ever.

I don't usually favour the author of this post, but having recently adopted a Greyhound, I whole heartedly agree that they are exactly as described. For young and old, you could not find a better choice of four legged companion. They are lazy, sweet, silly, loyal, and oh so entertaining.

SUNDAY GOOD NEWS!

Santa’s Little Helper is the new face of the greyhound adoption push in NZ.

One of TV’s most loved dogs is helping thousands of retired racers find homes. The Simpsons’ creators have partnered with Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) to feature Santa’s Little Helper in a nationwide campaign to rehome atleast 2,000 greyhounds following our Government’s racing ban. GAP is a great organisation with whom I partnered earlier this year to run an adoption awareness event at Parliament.

It’s so cool to see a world-renowned TV show partnering with a New Zealand charitable trust to generate positive outcomes for our greyhounds as they exit the racing world.

Known as “60kph couch potatoes,” greyhounds are calm, gentle pets who thrive on short walks and long naps, perfect for families. GAP says adoption interest has surged, and Christmas is an ideal time to welcome a new companion.

From fashion shows to billboards, greyhounds are proving they’re more than racers, they’re ready for family life.

If you can, this Christmas, let’s make it a season of second chances.

It's set to be an absolute scorcher today, so felt the need to give two friendly reminders.

🔥Please don't do anything that requires matches or makes sparks. Fire is just looking for an opportunity, and a hot and windy day gives it a huge advantage🔥

đź’§Please pop a dish of cold water out for our wildlife. There has been very little dew overnight, so they will already be thirsty đź’§
