One of today’s jobs started off pretty normal… until we moved the fridge.

Behind it was something the homeowners had no idea was there — a hidden breeding area that had clearly been active for quite some time. No major signs out in the open, just the occasional sightings here and there for cockroaches .

That’s the tricky part with kitchen pests… they’re incredibly good at staying hidden until the population starts growing fast.

The good news is we caught it before it spread further through the home.

A good reminder that if you’re seeing even a few insects around the kitchen at night, there’s usually more going on behind the scenes.

Gisborne Outdoor Cockroaches – Quick Info

Gisborne cockroaches are mainly outdoor insects found in gardens, mulch, wood piles, and damp areas. They are active at night and usually live outside.

They may come indoors due to rain or heat but they don’t normally establish infestations inside homes like German cockroaches.

When inside, they typically hide in dark, damp areas such as kitchens or bathrooms and then try to move back outside.

They are more of a nuisance visitor than an indoor pest.

When we do a flush-out treatment, cockroaches start to come out. That’s usually a sign there’s more hiding underneath. So we moved the fridge—and that’s where we found a large colony.

This is why proper inspection + treatment matters. What you see on the surface is often just a small part of the problem.
