🇮🇪🏡 BUDGET 2027 What does it actually mean for Irish housing?
Today’s Budget brought a number of announcements for first-time buyers, renters and homeowners so we’ve broken down some of the key housing measures without all the jargon. 👇
➡️ Changes to Help to Buy
🔑 Increased support for First-Time Buyers
🏠 Changes to the Rent Tax Credit
🏗️ Investment in new and affordable housing
🌱 More support for retrofitting and energy upgrades
There are definitely some positives…
🏡 Another interesting change for homeowners…
The Rent-a-Room Relief limit is increasing from €14,000 to €16,000, with the scheme also being extended to qualifying detached auxiliary dwellings of 32–45m².
For homeowners with extra space, this could open up a really interesting opportunity additional tax-free rental income while also bringing more accommodation into use.
But for us, the BIG question remains:
Will these measures actually help get more homes built and make buying or renting a home more achievable?
Because supports are important but without enough homes available, Supply remains at the heart of Ireland’s housing problem.
