Tips and Tricks for Keeping Your Kitchen Appliances Sparkling Clean
Did you know that a clean oven can improve cooking results, eliminate unpleasant odours, and even help your appliance last longer? While oven cleaning is often put off until absolutely necessary, keeping your oven free from grease, burnt food, and stubborn stains can make a noticeable difference to both the appearance of your kitchen and the performance of your appliance.
The good news is that with the right approach, oven cleaning doesn’t have to be difficult. Whether you’re tackling the job yourself or considering professional help, these simple tips will help keep your oven looking and performing at its best.
Why Regular Oven Cleaning Matters
A clean oven isn’t just about appearances. Regular cleaning can:
* Improve cooking performance
* Reduce unpleasant odours
* Prevent smoke caused by burnt food residue
* Extend the lifespan of your appliance
* Create a healthier kitchen environment
What You’ll Need
Before you begin, gather:
* Rubber gloves
* Warm water
* Washing-up liquid
* Microfibre cloths
* Non-scratch scrubbing pad
* Baking soda
* White vinegar
* Spray bottle
Step 1: Remove Shelves and Trays
Take out all removable shelves, trays, and racks. Soak them in warm, soapy water while you clean the interior of the oven.
Step 2: Apply a Cleaning Solution
Create a paste using baking soda and a small amount of water. Spread the paste over the inside surfaces of the oven, avoiding heating elements and fans.
Leave the paste to work for several hours, or overnight for heavily soiled ovens. Alternatively you can use pre made the pink stuff paste.
Step 3: Wipe Away Dirt and Grease
Using a damp cloth, remove the baking soda paste along with loosened grease and grime. Stubborn areas may require gentle scrubbing with a non-scratch pad.
Step 4: Use Vinegar for a Sparkling Finish
Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar and lightly spray the oven surfaces. The vinegar will react with any remaining baking soda residue, making it easier to wipe away and leaving a streak-free finish.
Step 5: Clean the Oven Door
The oven door often collects grease and fingerprints. Use your baking soda paste or a specialist glass cleaner to restore shine and visibility. Use a small toothbrush size wire brush to get into the smaller areas and I have used a long wooden pick at times to get into the corners or even a gentle steamer with attachments.
Step 6: Replace Shelves and Enjoy
Dry all components thoroughly before returning shelves and trays to the oven.
