Brighton & Hove will become a single, citywide Smoke Control Area (SCA), replacing the five existing zones. Brighton & Hove City Councilβs cabinet approved the change on 14 May 2026, following a six-week public consultation held between 19 January and 1 March 2026. This change will see the first update to these smoke control zones since the 1970s and will replace five smaller designated areas with one citywide zone.
