If something unwanted is haunting your home this Halloween… you know who to call 👻🐭

Rats, fleas, cluster flies and carpet beetles? Now you’re speaking his language 😅

As the weather gets colder, this is when all sorts of unwanted visitors start making themselves a little too comfortable indoors.

🐭 Rats & mice – often start looking for warmth, shelter and easy food sources as temperatures drop.

🪰 Cluster flies – gather in lofts, roof spaces and around upstairs windows as they look for somewhere sheltered to spend the colder months.

🐾 Fleas – can still be a problem indoors through autumn, especially in warm homes where pets are around.

🧶 Carpet beetle larvae – small, hairy larvae that can damage natural fibres like wool, feathers and fur.

🐿️ Grey squirrels – less common than rodents, but they can sometimes find their way into roof spaces too.

So if you’re hearing scratching, spotting droppings, finding groups of flies or noticing unexplained damage around the house, it might be worth finding out exactly what’s moved in 👀

What these are and why they’re suddenly everywhere now it’s getting colder 🪰👀

If you’ve suddenly noticed lots of flies gathering around your windows or upstairs rooms, there’s a good chance they’re cluster flies.

And no, they haven’t suddenly appeared because your house is dirty 😅

As temperatures drop, cluster flies start looking for somewhere warm and sheltered to spend the colder months, which is why you’ll often find them in places like👇

🪟 Around upstairs windows
🧱 Roof spaces
📦 Other quiet, undisturbed areas

So how are they different from normal house flies?

Whereas house flies are often attracted by food or waste, cluster flies are mainly looking for somewhere sheltered over winter.

You’ll also often spot cluster flies gathering together in groups, rather than seeing the odd fly buzzing around on its own.

So if you’ve suddenly got a crowd of slow-moving flies hanging around indoors this autumn, you know what they are now 👀

🐝 LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THIS BEAST! 🐝

RW Pest Control on the road again — this time in Stafford. 📍

Now that is what you call a wasp nest!

Hidden away above a client’s garage door, this absolute beast had been built in a nice sheltered spot — and judging by the size of it, they’d certainly made themselves at home!

It’s a great example of just how impressive these nests can become when they’re left undisturbed. What you see from the outside isn’t always the full story either.

And while RW Pest Control may be based elsewhere, distance doesn’t stop us. We travel wherever we’re needed to help our customers, and today the job has brought us to Stafford.

September is when wasps become much more interested in sugary food and drinks, which is why they suddenly seem to appear every time you sit outside.

As temperatures slowly begin to cool, rats and mice start looking for warm, dry places to nest over autumn and winter.

You'll often see less activity outside, but that doesn't always mean they've disappeared completely.

Finding the root cause of an infestation is our priority!!
Garden decking is well known for covering issues and hiding ingress points. This property in Shrewsbury has had an ongoing issue for some time...A bit of investigating found rodent burrows under the decking and under the footings of the property. Riddance program followed by a bit of concreting...problem solved!!!
