🚨 Foul Odours at an Apartment Block - Problem Found and Fixed! 🚨

We were called out to an apartment block in where residents were experiencing foul smells around the entrance lobby.

After some investigation, we suspected that the channel drains at the front entrance weren’t trapped and were likely connected to the foul pumping station in the basement car park. To confirm this, we carried out a pressurised smoke test from the pump chamber - and sure enough, smoke came straight out of the channel drains!

Every time the foul pump kicked in, it was pushing odours back through the untrapped system.

We’ve now installed 2 x 100mm non-return valves to seal the drains when not in use and stop smells from venting out when the pump engages. Problem solved ✅

Rodent investigation in Kent today 🐀

Burrows were showing up in the front garden, and after a bit of detective work we found the culprit. A redundant connection into the public sewer manhole was giving rats a free run under the garden.

We smoke tested the line and, sure enough, smoke poured straight out of every burrow – problem found and sorted ✅

Today we were in Folkestone, Kent, surveying the drainage system of an old Homebase building.

Using our mainline robotic CCTV camera, we were able to carry out a full condition survey and get a clear picture of the underground system. Job completed successfully and another detailed survey ticked off ✅

That meant working right up on the roof… in the middle of the heatwave! 🥵

It felt like a scene straight out of The Hangover 1
– minus the tiger.

Smoke Test Investigation!

Today, we conducted a thorough smoke test investigation at a phone shop to assess potential entry points for rodents, following an inconclusive CCTV survey due to a buried manhole.

During the test, smoke was visibly escaping around a soil vent pipe, indicating an open drain. To fully address this, we will need to remove the false wall for unrestricted access to seal the drain properly.

If you're experiencing rodent problems or foul odours, don’t hesitate to reach out! Smoke tests are an effective solution, as the smoke can pe*****te even the smallest cracks in the piping. We utilise pharmaceutical grade smoke that is safely introduced into the drainage system under pressure.

🌞 Day 2 of our soakaway system installation is in the books! Today, we successfully installed the soakaway and connected the pipework to the new gully at the base of the existing rainwater downpipe. After backfilling the soakaway, we reinstated the grass sections to restore the lawn.

Tomorrow, we’ll add shingle to protect the pipework, ensure correct gradient, backfill the trench, and relay the slabs. Despite the heat, our team pushed through and made great progress! 💪🏡 Excited to see this project come together!
