After 7 years with CleanTEC, Pauline is retiring 💙

Pauline joined us in 2019 as part of our Quality Control team and has been a valued member of CleanTEC ever since.

While she will be sad to leave her colleagues behind, she is looking forward to enjoying more time for herself and with her family and friends.

is a reminder that how we feel at work and how we treat one another every day matters.

Last year at the Cleaning Excellence Conference, one message stood out clearly: many cleaning operatives still experience feeling “undervalued", "belittled" and "looked down on” at work. This was made even more powerful by hearing members of the audience share their experiences of witnessing mistreatment during their careers in the cleaning industry.

Through our employee recognition scheme, we have seen first-hand how much impact simple acknowledgement and appreciation can have. Sometimes feeling valued can make a real difference to someone’s wellbeing.

But recognition alone is not enough. Creating a better workplace means all of us playing a part to challenge unhelpful attitudes, show respect in everyday interactions, and make sure everyone feels included and supported, no matter their role.

This Mental Health Awareness Week is a chance to reflect on how we can continue building workplaces where everyone feels supported, respected, and happy.💚

Huge shoutout to Mandy, who has just marked 25 years working at Hertsmere Civic Offices. This is an amazing achievement and a testament to her commitment and work ethic.

For the past 12 years, since CleanTEC began the contract, Mandy has been a fantastic supervisor, leading from the front and setting the standard for others to follow.

Today, on World Day for Safety and Health at Work, our QuEST Manager and BICSc Council Member Stephen Dove shares his perspective that challenges the assumption that empty buildings = safer buildings.

In this blog, Stephen explores how “quiet periods”, such as school holidays (particularly during deep cleans), can actually introduce more risk. These times bring reduced supervision, fewer staff on-site, and more physically demanding or specialist tasks that require heightened awareness.

Drawing on his 30+ years of industry experience, Stephen highlights potential hazards such as unsafe improvisation, manual handling injuries, and breakdowns in communication, and explains why consistency in safety standards is critical, even when no one else is around.

We offer chemical-free solutions, like 2San, which uses only water to deliver safe, effective, and eco-conscious cleaning.

• Paper use reduction
By moving audits, reporting, site documents and contract management online, we’ve significantly reduced paper usage across our operations.

• Reusable spray bottles
Our dosing systems allow operatives to refill reusable bottles, saving up to 150 single-use plastics per 5-litre container.

• Reducing bin liner waste
Where possible, we decant dry waste into larger bags, cutting down on single-use bin liners.

• Eco-friendly Vacuum Cleaners
We use the Numatic ReFlo range, which uses high-quality, sustainable, recycled plastic.

• Third-party carbon verification
We measure and review our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions annually to identify opportunities to reduce our footprint.

• Hybrid fleet
Our growing hybrid fleet helps minimise emissions, with all new vehicles meeting lower-impact standards.

• Responsible recycling
We use FSC-certified paper products and recyclable plastics, supported by recycling partnerships to close the loop.

Swipe to see the results from an Easter deep clean at The Grange E-ACT School.
Daily cleaning is essential to keep schools safe and hygienic for students, staff, and visitors, but it’s these periodic deep cleans where you can really see the transformation.

For The Grange, the school hall was fully stripped back and re-sealed, and the results speak for themselves. A big well done to all of our teams delivering deep cleans over the Easter break.

On Friday, we joined E-ACT at their Estates and IT Conference, hosted at Shenley Academy.

After a day of workshops and training for site staff, we were delighted to be welcomed to the Staff Awards, celebrating the fantastic work of estates and IT teams across the trust. Recognising that cleaning teams are an essential part of the wider site team, E-ACT kindly included our colleagues in the celebrations as well.

Our Head of Operations, Mark, spoke during the awards, sharing a bit about our internal recognition scheme and highlighting some exceptional Cleaning Operatives and Supervisors who support E-ACT schools every day.
