Of all the call-outs we do for commercial pigeon proofing across Yorkshire, solar panels come up more than anything else. There's a reason for that...

Pigeons aren't randomly choosing rooftops. They're looking for specific conditions.
✅ Warmth
✅ Shelter
✅ Height
✅ Minimal disturbance.

The gap beneath a solar panel ticks every box. Once a pair nest there successfully, the same spot gets used season after season and the colony grows! 🐦☀️

What makes it worth addressing early is what happens in the meantime. Droppings are corrosive and they accumulate faster than most people realise. Nesting material blocks drainage. The structural damage to the roof space underneath builds up over time and when it's eventually inspected, it's rarely a cheap fix. 😬

Bird netting around the panel perimeter is the solution. When it's properly fitted it blocks access completely, looks neat from the ground and has no effect on panel performance whatsoever. For a commercial building with a decent-sized solar installation, it's one of the more straightforward protective measures available.

If your solar panels haven't been checked for bird activity recently, now's a good time. Get in touch ⬇️

Grain stores are not small buildings and netting them properly is a serious undertaking. 🐦🌾

The scale of an agricultural installation like this is a different proposition to a residential balcony or a city centre flat. Large open structures, high roof lines, wide spans to cover and a job that needs to be done thoroughly because any gap left gives pigeons a way back in.

Pigeons in a grain store aren't just a nuisance. They contaminate stock, cause significant losses and create a serious hygiene and compliance issue for any agricultural business. Getting proper netting in place is the most effective long term solution available.

We've been working with agricultural clients across Yorkshire for years and jobs like this grain store netting installation are very much in our wheelhouse. The video below gives you a proper sense of the size of the structure and the standard of the finished installation. 🙌

Today we say a huge goodbye and an even bigger thank you to Lynne, who is retiring after 7 wonderful years with the MJB family. 🥂🌟

Seven years is a long time and Lynne has been such a valued part of what makes this place what it is. We're all going to miss her more than she probably realises. We wish her the most wonderful retirement and all the best for everything ahead.

From everyone at MJB, thank you Lynne. It's been a pleasure. 💛

If pest proofing isn’t on your summer maintenance plan, it should be. 👀🐀

Over time, buildings naturally develop small vulnerabilities. Gaps around pipework, damaged air bricks, worn door seals and roof materials starting to break down. They’re easy to miss and by the time they’re noticed, pests have already found their way in...

Summer gives you the perfect window to sort it. With lower occupancy, we can carry out surveys and proofing work without disruption and get everything sealed up properly before autumn hits and rodent pressure increases. 🍂

We work with offices and schools across Yorkshire and this time of year makes the whole process smoother and more efficient. 🙌

So if this isn't already on your list, now’s the time to add it. Drop us a message on our website and we’ll take a look at what needs doing. 👇

The biggest mistake people make with bird infestations is assuming they'll sort themselves out. 🐦⚠️

Once birds find a safe spot to roost or nest, they're surprisingly reluctant to leave it. What starts as a few birds visiting a roof space or ledge can quickly become something far more established. The droppings cause damage to roofing materials and brickwork over time. Nesting debris blocks guttering and drainage systems, which often isn't noticed until there's a bigger problem during heavy rain. ⚠️

The tricky part is that by the time it's obvious that there's an issue, the birds have usually already settled in properly. That's why catching the early signs matters so much.

In our latest blog, we explore five signs that may suggest birds are becoming established on your site and why acting early tends to be far more straightforward than waiting until it's a bigger job. 🏢✨

A bird infestation can be damaging to your property. Birds like pigeons live in large flocks, so check for the signs of a bird infestation if you spot them.

After 38 years working with commercial sites across Yorkshire, the one thing that still surprises people isn't the pest itself. It's what it actually costs when it isn't caught early. 💰

The treatment fee is usually the straightforward bit. It's everything around it that adds up. Stock that can't be used. An inspection that lands at the wrong time. Hours spent managing the situation rather than running the business. The odd review from a customer that noticed something before anyone else did.

It's just the reality of what a reactive approach tends to look like compared to a proactive one...

What a maintenance contract actually does is keep things simple. Regular visits, issues caught early, documentation ready when you need it. 😌

Fancy a chat about what that could look like for your site? You know where we are. 📲 https://www.mjbpestcontrol.co.uk/contact

For any food production or manufacturing facility, a pest control inspection isn't just good practice. It's a compliance requirement. 📋⚠️

Environmental health, BRC, SALSA, retailer audits. Every one of them will want to see documented evidence that pest management is being carried out regularly and properly on site. Not just that a company is contracted, but that visits are happening, findings are being recorded and any actions raised are being followed up.

That distinction matters more than most people realise until an audit comes around

This is exactly what we provide for our factory clients across Yorkshire. Scheduled inspections, full site reporting and a clear audit trail that protects the business when it counts. 🏭

If your current pest control setup isn't giving you that level of documentation, it's worth a conversation. 🔗 https://www.mjbpestcontrol.co.uk/contact/

July is one of our busiest months of the year and the variety of jobs our team handles in a single week gives a pretty good picture of what summer looks like from a pest control perspective. ☀️🚐

This week alone the team has been out to:
🐝 A wasp nest in the roof void of a food warehouse
🪰 A fly infestation in a commercial kitchen flagged after a routine visit
🐀 A rodent issue discovered during a maintenance check at a retail site
🕷️ A stored product insect problem in a distribution unit

Every single one of those was caught and dealt with before it had a chance to cause serious disruption to the business. That's the whole point. 🙌

Behind every job is a business that either had the right monitoring in place or called us early enough to keep it manageable. If your site isn't currently covered, it's worth a conversation. Drop us a message. 👇

Discovering pests in a rental property is stressful enough without trying to work out who is responsible for dealing with them. 🐀🏠

One of the most common questions we hear is whether pest control falls to the landlord or the tenant. The answer is not always as straightforward as people think, and getting it wrong can lead to delays, disputes and a bigger problem developing in the meantime.

In our latest blog, we break down the factors that determine responsibility and the steps both landlords and tenants should be aware of.

If you're dealing with a pest issue in a rented property right now, or you just want to know where you stand before it becomes an issue, it's worth five minutes of your time. Give it a read below. 👀

Is it the landlord or the tenant who is responsible for dealing with pest infestations? Read our guide on pest control for rental properties to find out more.

POV: You called MJB. Problem's sorted. You can finally sleep again. 😴🐀

38 years of making that happen across Yorkshire and it never gets old.

Pest problems have a way of sitting at the back of your mind until they're dealt with. The scratching at night. The thing someone spotted in the stockroom. The nest that appeared out of nowhere. Small things that somehow take up a disproportionate amount of headspace.

Getting the call to say it's sorted is the best part of the job. Every single time.

If we've helped you out recently and you've got a couple of minutes, a Google review means the world to a family run business like ours. It helps more people find us when they need us most.
