A year ago, my life looked very different.
I was working in internal recruitment for a large corporate travel management company when I was suddenly made redundant.
Around the same time, I also began to realise that some friendships in my life were built more on taking than supporting. It was a difficult season personally and professionally, made even harder after losing my brother to su***de just over two years earlier, a loss that changed my perspective on life completely.
Despite everything, I knew I wanted to rebuild with purpose.
I returned to my roots in care and accepted a role as a Care Coordinator. Very quickly, I became disheartened by what I saw. The lack of genuine compassion from leadership towards both clients and frontline staff was impossible to ignore. The carers working tirelessly every day deserved recognition, respect and proper support, yet too often they were overlooked.
Having previously studied Health and Social Care at degree level, I realised I didn’t just want to work in care anymore, I wanted to help change it.
That’s when Caring Kind Home Care was born.
I created a model centred around trust, dignity and genuine companionship.
The vision was simple: to provide meaningful support for people who may initially only need companionship, while building trusted relationships with carers should their needs later develop into personal care.
Continuity, compassion and connection became the foundation of the business.
From the beginning, I also wanted to do things differently for carers. Every carer introduced through Caring Kind Home Care is self-employed and paid fairly because I strongly believe the people delivering care deserve to feel valued.
Rather than chasing large profits, I chose to reinvest back into the business, its growth and the people within it.
Over the last seven months, I’ve worked hands-on to build the company from the ground up. It hasn’t been easy. Overnight, I found myself learning an entirely new world. Corporation tax, dividends, self-assessments and the realities of running a business were never part of my original plan, but with every challenge came growth.
Today, Caring Kind Home Care continues to go from strength to strength. The feedback from clients and families has been nothing short of incredible, and knowing we are making a genuine difference is the greatest reward of all.
Building something from nothing has given me confidence I never knew I had. I’ve discovered a passion for business, leadership and creating meaningful change. Most importantly, I’ve learned that difficult chapters do not define us. Sometimes they become the very reason we build something extraordinary.
It was during this time met Sarah, the founder of Storm Marketing who, ironically, was experiencing a similar phase in her own life. Her dedication to her business and watching her grow while building her following inspires me to keep reaching for my own dreams.
This is only the beginning🌈
