THE TOP IS FITTED!! 🙌🔥

And what a day it’s been… 😂

As much as we love a nice tall coved splashback (because let’s be honest, that’s what makes a solid surface worktop look 👌), we definitely don’t love plastered walls that have other ideas!

This corner decided to curve out by 6mm at the top… SIX MILLIMETRES! 🤦‍♀️ Enough to make any fabricator question their life choices for a minute! 😂

But… we worked our magic, the HI-MACS Pavia top is in, and just as expected, it looks absolutely spot on. 😍

And of course… that recessed drainer I temporarily forgot how to make? 😅 Worth the panic, because it finishes the whole top perfectly! 💪

Another happy customer and another reminder that no wall is ever actually straight! 🤣

UPDATE… THE YORKSHIREMAN IS BACK! 😂

The workshop can finally function again.

After a mid-job recap from the Yorkshireman, the recessed drainer is officially done! 💪

Turns out I hadn’t forgotten how to do it after all… I just needed someone to reboot my brain for five minutes! 🤦‍♀️🤣

Who knew the boss still needed technical support every now and then? 😅

Here on my own at Designed Surfaces, achieving absolutely f**k all while I wait for the Yorkshireman to get back from holiday and give me the motivational kick up the arse I desperately need 😂

Apparently he’s taken my last remaining brain cell on holiday with him, because I’ve now forgotten how to do a recessed drainer… something I’ve done approximately 947 times before 😩🤦‍♀️

At this point I’m basically just wandering around the workshop looking busy and hoping muscle memory kicks in before Monday 😂

COME BACK, I’M UNSUPERVISED AND IT’S NOT GOING WELL! 🤣

🥵 30°C outside…

“Let’s put the oven on!” 🤦‍♀️😂

Completely normal decision when you work with solid surface!

Today’s job was heating up an old sheet of Corian® Beach Glass to thermoform a bespoke curved floating shelf and finish off a kitchen transformation.

The best bit? This sheet had been sat in the yard waiting for a second chance. Waste not, want not! ♻️

Some people cool off with ice cream… we crank the oven up to bend worktops. 🔥😅

Saving another solid surface top! ♻️🙌

So, after carefully explaining to a fellow tradesperson how to remove a Corian worktop — nice sharp blades, a clean straight cut, and keeping the gap as small as possible so we could put this beautiful grained White Onyx top back together with a discreet joint — he listened intently, took it all on board… and then did the complete opposite. 😂🤦‍♀️

I can only assume the chosen technique involved a blunt multi-tool, one eye closed and absolutely no fear. 😳😂

So, on an already hot and stressful day, off we went to sort out the situation. And, being the highly skilled professionals we are 😏, we managed to pull it back together.

To be fair… it’s worked out pretty bloody well! 👌

Another solid surface top saved from waste, ready to carry on its life in its new home. That’s one of the great things about solid surface — with the right skills, even when things don’t quite go to plan, it can be repaired, reworked and reused. ♻️

Started the day feeling all productive… gym done 💪, headed to the workshop, went into the toilet to get changed ready for work… and then the door decided I wasn’t leaving. 😂🚪

Yep. Locked in the workshop toilet. What a start to the day. 🤦‍♀️

Thank f**k for all the random stuff that gets stored in there, because after a bit of rummaging around I managed to find some upholstery tools and break myself free. 😂🔧

Who needs a locksmith when you work in a workshop? 🤣

Anyway… gym done, escape room completed. Suppose I’d better actually do some work now. 😂

🔧 Workshop update!
A new worktop taking shape in Tristone Elegance — and at over 3.6 metres long, an end-to-end extension is needed.
The challenge? This isn’t a plain colour. Tristone Elegance has a directional grain, so sheet orientation, grain direction and pattern flow all need careful planning before the joint is made.
With accurate preparation, alignment, bonding and finishing, the aim is simple: your eye follows the grain, not the joint. 👌
Not just jointless. Seamless.
That’s the beauty of solid surface — standard sheet sizes don’t have to limit the finished design. Extra-long worktops, oversized islands, commercial counters and bespoke projects can all be created as one continuous-looking surface.
The material gives us the possibilities. The skill is making it look effortless. 😉
More updates soon! 👀

A cracked worktop doesn’t always mean replacement.
This Corian® Pearl Grey worktop had suffered a significant crack, but one of the biggest advantages of all solid surface materials is that they’re 100% repairable. Rather than sending it to landfill, this top has been professionally repaired and is ready to be reinstalled in its new kitchen.
This is my 2nd top to save in the last week.
If this had been many other worktop materials, replacement would likely have been the only practical option, creating unnecessary waste.
Choosing a repairable material means investing in longevity, sustainability, and a product that can often be given a second life.
This kitchen has been saved, the worktop has been saved, and that’s another example of zero waste in action.

Friday… one of those days. Who actually wants to be at work? 😂
Another day of routing and sanding.
You know when you’re doing repetitive jobs and your brain just goes into overdrive?
One minute I’m planning next week’s jobs, the next I’m replaying an argument from 10 years ago that never happened, wondering if penguins have knees, deciding what I’m having for tea, and somehow solving world problems that nobody asked me to solve.
Then suddenly… YES! An air hole appears. Finally something exciting. Time to fill it with glue and carry on. 🤣
Talking of random thoughts…
People often ask why we sand solid surfaces so much.
Sanding isn’t just about making it smooth. It removes machining marks, levels joints and repairs, blends seams so they’re invisible, and creates the finish the customer actually sees. Whether it’s a satin, matte, or polished finish, sanding is what brings the material to life.
So while my hands are sanding, my brain is off having completely unrelated conversations with itself.
Happy Friday everyone! What random thoughts have been running through your head today? 🤔😂
