And the second sting of the season goes to Robbie.
Honestly it’s not a competition. 😁
Both our stings came several minutes after the job was completed and we were a fair distance from the treated nest.
They do say wasps can recognise faces.

We are often asked.
Vinegar or Lemon Juice for a wasp sting ?

Both vinegar and lemon juice are traditionally used for wasp stings because the venom is slightly alkaline, meaning an acid might help neutralize it. However, vinegar is generally preferred because lemon juice can make your skin sensitive to the sun and cause irritation.
How to Treat a Wasp Sting.
Wash the area with clean soap and cool water.
Apply a cold pack or ice wrapped in a cloth for 10 to 20 minutes to bring down swelling.
Dab a little vinegar on a cotton pad and hold it gently on the skin.

Take a pain reliever or use antihistamine tablets or cream if it is itchy.
We find the cheap ones from LIDL, Home Bargains, BnM, Aldi etc work just as well as the expensive branded ones.
(Of course , read the instructions first. THE WASP GUYS are not responsible for any adverse reaction 😁)

If you are showing any signs of a severe allergic reaction (like trouble breathing or swelling of the face) seek immediate emergency help.

For those advocating someone to climb a ladder and treat a wasp or hornet nest themselves.
VERY DANGEROUS advice.
Wasps can sting multiple times and attack en masse.
Here’s one we treated today.
Honestly.
Would you really want a loved one climbing a ladder and risk doing a nest themselves.

⚠️ Yellow-legged Asian Hornet (YLAH) - Surrey Update

Another reminder that Yellow-legged Asian Hornets are active in Surrey.

Kevin Selfe, Reigate Beekeepers’ Yellow-legged Asian Hornet Coordinator, has reported a Yellow-legged Asian Hornet at a monitoring station in Fetcham, near Leatherhead. The sighting has been reported to the National Bee Unit (NBU), who will now coordinate the response.

The hornet returned to the bait station after approximately 6 minutes, suggesting the nest may be relatively nearby, although its exact location is not known.

If you’re in the Fetcham, Leatherhead, Bookham or Cobham area, please stay vigilant. Beekeepers should keep an eye out for hornets hawking in front of hive entrances, while residents may spot them visiting flowering plants or sugary food sources.

If you think you’ve seen a Yellow-legged Asian Hornet:

🐝 Take a clear photo if it is safe to do so.

🐝 Report it using the Asian Hornet Watch app.

🐝 Please don’t attempt to search for or disturb a nest yourself. The NBU and trained local volunteers are best placed to investigate and deal with any nests safely.

Thank you to Kevin Selfe for allowing these photos to be shared to help raise awareness.

Do Fake Wasp Nests Really Deter Wasps and Hornets?

The short answer is: there is no reliable evidence that fake nests consistently deter wasps or hornets.
It's true that wasps can be territorial, but research suggests they rely far more on chemical cues (scents and pheromones) than on the visual appearance of a nest. An active nest produces unique chemical signals that other wasps can detect. A fabric or paper imitation cannot reproduce these cues.
Many people believe fake nests work because they hang one where a nest was removed the previous year and notice that "the wasps never came back." However, this is simply normal wasp behaviour.
Wasps and hornets do not reuse old nests. At the end of the season, the colony dies out, and the nest is abandoned. The following spring, new queens emerge from hibernation and build entirely new nests, often in different locations.
So, if wasps don't return to last year's nest site, it is not proof that the fake nest was effective—it is exactly what would be expected to happen naturally.
If you're concerned about wasps or hornets nesting on your property, the most effective approach is to remove attractive nesting sites where possible, monitor for early nest activity in spring, and seek professional advice if an active nest develops.

Look closely. Those little white balls in the wasps jaws are the wall insulation being removed.
They will replace this with their paper nest.
As we have commented many times.
Wasps and hornets can be extremely destructive.
