SAYING TR19 COMPLIANT IS NOT TR19 CERTIFICATED.
DO YOU ACTUALLY KNOW HOW IT WORKS
Is your business compliant?
There are many types of supply and extraction systems throughout the country. Each type of systems have different Laws, guidance, and regulations to be compliant and to be issued the correct certificate for your Insurance Company for your system. This can be confusing as the regulations have changed leaving businesses paying for something they are not getting.
Your business obligations
Insurance – Certification must be authorised by RISCAuthority and recognised by your insurance company.
Law – Your business has legal requirement Regulation EC852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs Annex II.
FSA – Food Standard Agency state, Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995 – ventilation and any other equipment must be visually clean and in a good state of repair. The amount and type of cleaning needed will relate to the area of the premises and the use to which it is put.
HSE
• Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
• AcoP5 (41 & 42) relating to Regulation 5 of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 makes specific reference for the need for regular maintenance including inspection and testing at suitable intervals.
BESCA is the recognised industry standard for ventilation hygiene – BESA Guide to Good Practice TR19®, Internal Cleanliness of Ventilation Systems and the new Specification for TR19® Grease, Fire Risk Management of Grease Accumulation within Kitchen Extraction Systems.
TR19®Grease or TR19® Internal Cleanliness of a Ventilation System
•
This association first published TR/17 in 1998 in order to give guidance to good practice and to establish standards for testing, cleaning and verification of the internal cleanliness of ventilation systems. The guide was re-published in 2005 to include further improvements to best practice and to incorporate the former publication DW/TM2 – Internal Cleanliness of New Ductwork Installations. To differentiate this expanded edition from its predecessor publication, it was renumbered TR/19. The opportunity was been taken in the second Edition of TR/19 to incorporate reference to the new British and European Standard BS EN 15780 Cleanliness of Ventilation Systems introduced in 2011. Also changes were made to highlight the current best practice for ensuring that kitchen extract systems are maintained to minimise the risk of fire associated with grease accumulation. Kitchen extract systems are not covered by BS EN 15780.
Please Note: In this Third Edition, Section 7 has been withdrawn and has been superseded by TR19® Grease, a new, stand-alone specification for Fire Risk Management of Grease Accumulation within Kitchen Extraction Systems.
TR19®Grease
TR19®Grease is a stand-alone specification dedicated to businesses within the commercial kitchen environment, for Fire Risk Management.
•
