A year and a half ago, I genuinely considered giving it all up.

This weekend I drove 4 hours to spend some time with a close friend who was struggling, and seeing that took me straight back to where I was back then.

We all have hurdles to jump over and obstacles to overcome in business, work and life.

Sometimes they arrive one at a time.

Sometimes they all seem to stack on top of each other.

If you’ve been in business for a few years, you’ll understand exactly what I mean when I say we’ve all ridden those horrible waves of success and failure… sometimes all within the same week.

There was a point where I genuinely considered giving it all up.

As another close friend would say, “my glass was too full and beginning to overflow.”

One of the biggest things I learned was to stop trying to tackle everything at once. I broke things down into smaller stages that my brain and body could actually handle. I made my to do list realistic. The things that could wait went onto a “this month” list or even a “this year” list.

I learned to lean on the right people, not the wrong ones.

I learned to trust my gut. Because honestly, it doesn’t go off for no reason.

I learned that being the nicest boss and trying to be everyone’s friend isn’t always the answer. Sometimes being a leader means setting standards, creating direction, and protecting the culture you’re trying to build.

Looking back now, I’m incredibly grateful I kept going.

What started as a domestic cleaning company has grown into something I could only have dreamed of back then.

From domestic and commercial cleaning, to deep cleans, end of tenancy cleans, exterior cleaning, oven cleaning, carpet and upholstery cleaning, and now biohazard cleaning too.

But more importantly, it allows us to help people.

Whether that’s giving a busy family some breathing room, helping someone love their home again, or taking an overwhelming situation off someone’s shoulders during a difficult time.

I will always be grateful for the people who helped me get here. My husband who rode every wave beside me. My best friend who has been my biggest cheerleader no matter what, My amazing team. My family and friends. And our wonderful clients who continue to trust and support us every single day.

So if you’re currently going through hardship in business, work, or life, please remember this:

Ride the waves.

Ask for help when you need it.

Trust your gut.

Give yourself time to heal without guilt.

And remember that the people who truly care about you would much rather help carry the load than watch you struggle under it alone.

That’s why I drove 4 hours this weekend.

Because sometimes all someone needs is a hug, a coffee, a bit of perspective, or simply someone to sit and listen.

And for the people who know me know, if a complete stranger walked up to me and said, “I need an ear to listen,” I’d lend them two. ❣️🧚🏼‍♀️

What a wonderful, belly fluttering, exciting day here at Rhi’s Pixie Dusters today ❣️🧚🏼‍♀️

Today I had the pleasure of spending the day with a wonderful new starter, and I can already tell she is going to be such an amazing fit for our team. Seeing our little business continue to grow with people who truly align with our standards and values is such a proud moment.

On top of that… our new van artwork is officially complete and our brand new leaflets have finally arrived too 🖤

I cannot even explain how happy I am with how the leaflets turned out. I spent a FULL week designing these myself, adjusting every little detail until they felt exactly right for our brand and the vision I had in my head. To now finally hold them in my hands is such a lovely feeling.

A huge shoutout as well to Black Lime graphics for our van artwork. It looks super clean, professional, tidy and exactly the sleek look I wanted for the business. Absolutely over the moon with it.

What a superb day all round ✨

Today was one of those moments that reminded me that behind every business, every schedule, every clean, every message and every smile… there is still just a human trying to hold it all together.

This morning I walked into the office and within seconds felt completely overwhelmed out of nowhere. That horrible sudden feeling of dread, panic and wanting to burst into tears, even though nothing “bad” had actually happened.

I think sometimes when you juggle so much for so long, you don’t even realise how much pressure you’re carrying until your mind and body suddenly say “that’s enough for a minute.”

The reality behind running a business is that people often only see the finished result:
✨ The polished posts
✨ The happy team photos
✨ The growth
✨ The clean homes
✨ The exciting new services

What they don’t always see is the constant juggling behind the scenes:
School runs.
Staffing.
Clients.
Schedules changing.
Finances.
Training.
Problem solving.
Trying to support everybody while still holding your own home life together too.

And honestly? I think it’s important to talk about that side too.

Because overwhelm does not mean failure.
Sometimes it just means you’ve been carrying a lot for a long time.

Anyway… little honest moment from me this morning 🤍

Dave has been amazing, but I think he may have created a perfectionist monster… but honestly, that’s exactly how we like it 😂✨

He has completely thrown himself into this and absolutely smashed it. The standards, the attention to detail, the pride he takes in every single job already is unreal.

Anything this man puts his mind to, he gives 110% and I honestly could not be prouder watching him continue to grow this side of the business 💪

I don’t say this enough, but honestly… I am so proud. ❣️

Proud of myself.
Proud of my husband.
Proud of my team.
Proud of what we are building together at Rhi’s Pixie Dusters. ✨

Today alone we have secured 4 new clients, continued expanding our specialist services, and yesterday Jack completed his final roof cleaning training.
Watching him throw himself fully into this new division of the company over the past 6 weeks has been incredible. The growth, determination and work ethic from him has been amazing to watch and I genuinely could not be prouder.

Today we also returned to complete a full volunteer external cleaning service at one of our local pubs, The Saint Dunstan. To be able to give back to our community and support a local pub whilst so many pubs are struggling these days is something we feel incredibly honoured and proud to be part of, as I grew up in the pub industry as a child, Community will always matter massively to us as a business.

What really struck me recently was something Dave, who has provided all of Jack’s external cleaning training, said to me. He spoke so highly of both myself and Jack, our ambition, our drive and the vision behind what we are building, and also said how much he admired me as a businesswoman and could see how hard I work. Honestly, it meant more than he probably realised.

Because behind every growing business is usually exhaustion, stress, sacrifice, risk, long nights, self doubt and moments where people around you question whether it is all worth it.

But this is exactly why I keep going.

I truly believe if you want something badly enough, you can achieve it. You do not need to start with loads of money, endless knowledge or the “perfect” circumstances. You just need to start. Learn. Push yourself and Keep showing up.

Every time we hit a goal, I instantly set another one. Not because it is about greed or status, but because I want freedom. Freedom for my family, stability for my team, opportunities to give back, a life where we can genuinely enjoy what we have worked so hard for, be proud of who we are and what we have achieved and because we genuinely are hard working people and don’t enjoy sitting still.🫣😆

I also want to give a huge shoutout to my amazing team. Every single day they show up, work incredibly hard and genuinely care about the homes and clients they look after. The attention to detail, care and pride they put into their work does not go unnoticed, and seeing the difference they make to people’s homes and lives means everything. I truly could not do this without them and I am so grateful for every single one of them. 🤍

2026 has already been a huge year for us and we are nowhere near finished yet. We have so many exciting things still coming this year for example Jack will be completing his carpet cleaning course next week and so much more in the pipeline and I honestly cannot wait to continue sharing the journey with you all.

To every single client, supporter, trainer, staff member, friend and person cheering us on behind the scenes… thank you. You are helping us build something really special. ✨

It’s often the smallest things that make the biggest difference ✨

This kitchen extractor fan is a perfect example of something that easily becomes “out of sight, out of mind”.
