Week 4 with some of my SewCiety students ✂️🖤

It’s honestly been amazing watching their confidence and sewing skills grow week by week. Students are now confidently constructing garment pieces, understanding seam allowances, pinning, hemming, sleeve insertion, interfacing, and even learning how to understand sewing patterns properly ☀️

What I love most is that students also document everything they learn throughout the course, so they can continue building on these skills during their own sewing journeys.

And honestly… some of these are things many adults don’t even know 😭 Yet students from ages 6–18 are learning and applying these skills so confidently.

✨ New weekly term starting in June ✨

Before then, we still have a few spaces available in our half-term workshops:

✂️ Tuesday 26th May – Plushy / Garment Workshop
✂️ Thursday 28th May – Teen Fashion Workshop

Watching my students grow in confidence will honestly never get old 🖤✂️

Sarah has been doing so well, and seeing her progress from lesson to lesson is actually crazy. From using the overlocker, inserting invisible zips, finishing garments professionally, and now confidently making sewing decisions on her own 😭👏🏾

And she’s not done yet… next up, we’re creating matching trousers for the full summer fit ☀️

I love documenting these journeys because people really don’t realise how much confidence sewing and creating can build.

Private sewing classes and holiday workshops are available to book now.

Also very excited for some upcoming community projects and collaborations this summer… more on that soon

Hi everyone 😊

A little update on our May half-term workshops ✂️

Our Make Your Own Garment session on Wednesday is now fully booked — thank you so much!

I’ve added an extra date on Thursday (10am–2pm) and there are just a few spaces left.

Here’s a little glimpse of what students have been working on recently — from learning how to use a sewing machine to creating their own pieces step by step.

It’s always amazing to see how quickly they build confidence and leave with something they’re genuinely proud of.

Perfect for beginners or those who want to develop their skills further.

If you’d like more details or to book, feel free to message me 😊 # #

Backdated but too good not to share ✨

This was her very first sewing session, and she did such an amazing job.

We used some lovely scrap fabric to create a simple scrunchie — something she could actually use — and the finish was beautiful. It genuinely looked shop-bought.

It’s always so lovely to see confidence grow, even within one session.

This was from a private class, which can be a great option for beginners or those who prefer a more personalised approach.

If your child has been showing an interest in sewing, this could be a great place to start.

Our St Albans Make Your Own Garment workshop on Wednesday 27th May is now fully booked, but I’ve added a new date for Thursday 28th May.

Feel free to message me if you’d like more information 😊

Perfect for beginners and young creatives who love making things with their hands.

A little update from SewCiety School ✂️

Our students have now completed their tote bag projects, which was an important first step in helping them understand the basics of sewing, simple pattern construction, and how patterns actually work on a beginner level.

From there, they’ve now moved on to choosing the garments they would like to create and starting the pattern process for their final pieces.

This is where things get really exciting — students begin understanding how to work from a sewing pattern, how patterns are adapted, and how garments are built to fit properly.

We also work on pattern manipulation, so they’re not just following something basic — they’re learning how to make it their own.

By the end of the course, they won’t just leave with a finished garment, but also with their own sewing pattern that they can take home and use again, helping them build confidence and independence in their sewing journey.

The goal is always to teach real skills — not just how to sew something once, but how to understand the full process and feel confident creating again.

It’s been amazing watching their progress already 😊

Only a few spaces remain in our weekly children’s and teen sewing classes in St Albans ✨

It’s been a busy week at SewCiety School ✂️

Between private sewing lessons, weekend workshops, and the start of our new weekly classes, there’s been a lot happening behind the scenes.

It’s been so lovely seeing students grow in confidence, learn new skills, and start creating garments they can actually wear and feel proud of.

From private one-to-one lessons to children’s and teen group classes, the goal is always the same — learning real sewing skills, understanding garment construction, and creating something from scratch.

There is still time to join the 6-week sewing courses in St Albans, and catch-up sessions can be arranged where needed so students still get the full experience.

May half-term workshops are also available now ✨

Feel free to message me for more details 😊

During our Easter workshops, not everyone wanted to make Easter bunny bags…

Some of them came in with their own ideas and wanted to create garments they could actually wear ✂️

They thought about what they wanted, chose their fabrics, and brought their ideas to life from start to finish.

That’s what I love most — everyone can come in and do something different, but still learn the same skills and build confidence in what they’re creating.
