📌 My Saturday Advice: For Everyone — Security, Customers, Venues & Organisers 📜
Many people call them “standing laws” — their proper name is Statute Law — these are the official written laws passed by Parliament that everyone must follow.
If you don’t know your rights and duties, the law can affect you no matter which side you are on.
For all venue owners, clubs, pubs & event organisers
If you allow someone to work with a fake badge, borrowed badge, or no valid SIA licence — YOU are also committing a crime:
✅ Private Security Industry Act 2001 Section 5
• Knowingly using unlicensed staff = serious offence
• Consequences: Up to 5 years in prison, unlimited fine, or both
• Your venue licence can be suspended or taken away completely
• Your insurance becomes invalid — you pay all costs yourself if anything goes wrong
💡 My honest advice:
It is much safer to hire security from a registered company instead of employing people directly yourself.
When you hire an established company:
✅ We already check every officer’s SIA badge, passport, DBS and full background
✅ We verify their identity and make sure the photo matches the person
✅ We take full legal responsibility for our staff while they work for you
✅ If anything goes wrong, the company answers — not you alone
✅ You stay protected, compliant, and safe from heavy penalties
If you hire people yourself, you only see a badge — you don’t know who they really are or what history they have. And if something happens, you are the one who gets blamed.
For all security officers, door supervisors & staff
✅ Verbal abuse, threats or bad words = offences under Public Order Act 1986
• Section 4, 4A & 5 cover harassment, alarm or distress
✅ Assaulting you is a serious crime
• Section 39 Criminal Justice Act 1988 – common assault
• Section 47 Offences Against the Person Act 1861 – actual harm
• Sentencing Act 2020 – higher sentences because you protect the public
✅ You have the right to be paid fully and on time
• Employment Rights Act 1996 Section 13 & 23
• National Minimum Wage Act 1998
• Late Payment of Commercial Debts Act 1998
⚠️ Never use borrowed or fake SIA badges
• Up to 5 years in prison + fine + permanent criminal record
For all customers & people going out
✅ Security officers are only there to keep everyone safe
✅ Shouting abuse or fighting them is a crime — you can be arrested or go to prison
✅ Be calm, be polite, and everyone can have a good time
💡 Always use body cameras on duty — they show the truth and protect everyone.
