Simple log slices cut in half and turned into matching pairs (added little beads to add an extra fine motor challenge 🥹)

I love resources that are easy for children to pick up independently, but open-ended enough to be used in different ways .Simple resources are often the ones children return to again and again

These are lovely for:
✨ matching the halves
✨ counting spots
✨ placing and removing beads etc
✨ comparing quantities
✨ talking about symmetry
✨ building hand strength and coordination

And… there’s something very satisfying about matching them back together 😅

Just a little reminder that Mrs K’s Tree House is now closed until 1st September 🌿☀️

You can still browse the website and place orders as usual, but any new orders will be made and dispatched from 1st September 🤍

Thisnsummer seems to be absolutely jam packed, but I’m loving the extra time with my children 🥹 They’re growing up far too quickly but I (mostly 😅) genuinely enjoy their company.

My busy brain still can’t fully switch off though… I keep thinking of ideas for September and new items I could make 👀🌿✨

A little throwback to where it all started 🥹🌿

This was one of the very first log slice resources I made about 6 years ago 🥹

At the time I was working in a tiny rural school with an equally tiny budget, so I started making my own resources (and if I’m honest, roping my husband in too 😅). We were chopping up his supply of logs and branches in an attempt to bring a little more nature into what felt like a *very* plastic fantastic setting.
I was working part-time alongside two very… lets say 'traditional' colleagues 😬 and I don’t think they ever really understood what I was trying to create. My children were much younger, I was juggling a lot, and I just didn’t have the headspace or confidence to push my ideas in that situation.

So instead, I started sharing some of them online.
And somehow, I found my people 🫶🏻

Looking back, I do wish I’d stood up for myself a little more. But I’m also grateful for that experience, because without it I don’t think Mrs K’s Tree House would exist.

Funny how the things that make you feel a bit out of place can sometimes lead you exactly where you’re meant to be 🤍🌿

A little break away from the usual log slice content… 🌳😊

Back from the most wonderful week in La Rochelle, France 🇫🇷☀️

One thing that really stood out was the incredible outdoor lifestyle here. We’ve cycled well over 100 miles this week, exploring beautiful coastal routes, and the cycle network is honestly amazing — huge amountof flat, well-maintained paths that make getting outside and exploring so easy.

It’s easy to see why this part of France is considered to have such a wonderful quality of life. There’s such a lovely balance of nature, fresh air, slower living and time spent outdoors.

Feeling refreshed, inspired and very grateful for the memories made. Now for a few more weeks of enjoying the summer before getting back to the workshop in September 💚

Instagram can sometimes make you question yourself 🤔

I recently saw a post saying written prompt cards are a waste of time. I don't agree with this .. but then I remembered that every class is different.

I use continuous provision in my nursery class but I also regularly include a few more adult-prompted activities because my children genuinely enjoy them

Take this activity. It's simple, definitely not insta-perfect, and yes... it has a prompt card! 😬

My children can't read yet, but that's not the point. It reinforces that print has meaning, introduces key vocabulary, encourages discussion and questioning, and gives children opportunities to notice familiar letters and sounds

The childrenkept coming back to it. They were counting, matching, talking, problem-solving ("No, the purple one goes with the butterfly!"), and helping each other

Would this work in every setting? Probably not. But with my class of 10, it worked really well

Simple doesn't mean ineffective. In my opinion & experienxe sometimes the activities that look the least impressive are the ones that spark the richest conversations and the most engagement.

Every setting, every teacher and every group of children is different 💚

I've got around 20 one-off items ready for Wednesday at 7pm! 🥹

Everything has been priced to find a new home before the summer holidays, so there are some real bargains to be had🤍

Most of these are pieces I've made and used in my own nursery classroom, so they're ready to be loved in another setting

Just ONE of each item available... once it's gone, it's gone! 👀✨
