Sometimes the smallest of changes makes the biggest difference...
The only thing letting this original Blue lias floor down was a bad repair job.
We removed the concrete and smaller stones, fitting this hand cut flagstone.
Makes all the difference!

Mud Stone...
Every now and again we come across a variant of Blue lias called mud Stone.
It is from the top bed in the strata, so younger and less compressed. This variant is most common - yellow with splodges of grey. Beautiful in its own right.
Looking forward to waxing this one!

People often ask us if we can remove paint?
The answer is YES.
This lias floor in Axminster was covered with red paint to act as a damp proof barrier - bad idea!
This creates an impervious layer that causes the stones to sweat. Moisture from the bare earth is drawn up, causing the surface of the stones to delaminate.
Once stripped and treated with natural finishes, the floor can breathe as intended.

Another flagstone floor stripped clean...
Old pointing removed and ready for our colour matched Somerset Mix, a blended recipe using the finest natural ingredients, including dust from the stripping process.

Newly laid flagstone floor...
When the clients lifted an old carpet, expecting to find a flagstone floor, they found that half the stones were missing, replaced with concrete.
The concrete was removed and the ground prepared. Reclaimed Blue lias flagstones from were cut, dressed and laid in traditional rows.
We are going back in April to restore the whole floor.

We're hiring...
Looking for an apprentice to join the team.
Full training will be provided.
Must be fit and tidy minded. Driving licence an advantage but not a deal breaker if local to Langport.
