Here’s our staffs’ favourite 5 tips, as laundry specialists, to alleviate nasty hay fever symptoms:
🔥Wash at 60°C:
High temperatures are required to fully break down organic allergens and neutralise pollen proteins. A standard lukewarm wash often leaves traces of allergens trapped within the weave of your sheets.
🗓️Weekly bedding changes:
Pollen accumulates daily from your hair, skin, and clothes. Changing your covers every seven days ensures you aren’t sleeping in a concentrated build-up of environmental triggers that cause overnight congestion.
🏠Dry your bedding indoors:
Avoid the washing line on breezy days. Wet laundry acts like a magnet for airborne pollen. Hanging sheets outside—especially when the pollen count is high—effectively coats your bedding in the very allergens you’re trying to avoid.
🚿Shower before bed:
To keep your fresh sheets clean, wash the day’s pollen off your hair and skin before climbing in. This prevents you from transferring outdoor particles directly onto your pillowcase.
🪟Keep windows shut where you can:
During peak pollen hours (early morning and evening), keep bedroom windows closed. This stops “pollen drift” from settling on your bed covers throughout the day.
I know we always look forward to summer for easier laundry days - but anyone with allergies isn’t as lucky. 🥲
