There’s been a lot of discussion recently about Airbnb’s new approach to checkout rules, particularly around asking guests to wash up or empty the bins.
From my experience, the properties I look after have **no checkout rules at all**. And do you know what? The vast majority of guests are absolutely brilliant! They wash up, or stack the dishwasher and set it going, empty the bins, and leave everything neat and tidy. Sometimes, they even strip the beds! 😊
On the very rare occasion that a property is left messy, with piles of washing-up, I honestly believe those guests would probably have left it that way regardless of what the checkout instructions said. Thankfully, they are very much in the minority.
I’m confident that most guests will continue to leave holiday lets in good order, not because a list of rules tells them to, but because it’s simply the decent thing to do.
When guests arrive at a clean, well-presented and well-maintained property, a little good old-fashioned common courtesy and respect goes a long way. ❤️
Perhaps we don’t need endless checkout instructions after all. Perhaps most people are perfectly capable of doing the right thing without being told.
**The only rule in the properties I take care of is simple: relax and have a lovely stay!** 🏡✨
