Employee of the Month – Joe

This month’s Employee of the Month was an easy decision.

To put it simply, by a million miles, Joe stood out above everyone else.

Since returning to Orca, Joe has impressed us every single day. Whatever task he’s given, he approaches it with confidence, professionalism and a real understanding of what needs to be done. Whether he’s managing office procedures and systems, leading his team, or out on site with the tools, everything is carried out with excellent planning, precision and attention to detail.

We asked our Managing Director, Steve, for his thoughts on this month’s winner:

“I honestly don’t think there was anyone even close to Joe this month. I’ve seen nothing but great things from him since he returned. His attitude, professionalism and the way he manages both his responsibilities and his team have been outstanding.

One of the things I admire most is that we first took Joe on as a young labourer. He learned every aspect of the business from the ground up, gaining hands-on experience across all of our services and understanding exactly how we operate on site.

He left Orca because he wanted to progress in his career, and I completely respected that decision. The experience he gained elsewhere taught him things we could never have shown him. When the opportunity came for him to return, he came back as a more knowledgeable, confident and well-rounded professional.

He really is the complete package now, and I genuinely believe he has an incredible future in this industry. I’m excited to see what he achieves with Orca over the coming years.”

Job Title: Industrial Cleaning Operative

Pay Rate: £13.00+ per hour (Higher rates available for experienced candidates and CSCS/IPAF holders)

Hours: 25+ hours per week (Overtime available up to 40 hours/week)

Location: Durham and surrounding areas.

Position: Permanent / Part-Time to Full-Time
About the Role

Due to exciting business expansion, we are looking for a reliable, hard-working Industrial Cleaning Operative to join our growing team.

No prior experience? No problem.
We can teach you the rest! If you bring a strong work ethic and a great attitude, we will provide full training to help you succeed.

What We Offer
* Competitive Pay: Starting at £13.00/hr, with enhanced pay rates for experienced operatives and ticket holders.

Before the week gets underway, we always start with a Monday morning meeting with our team leaders.
It's a simple routine, but one that adds a huge amount of value.
First, it's a chance to catch up with the team. As the business has grown, I'm not on site every day, so it's important to hear how last week's jobs went, what went well, what could have been done better, and discuss all the finer details from start to finish.
We then run through the projects planned for the week ahead, making sure everyone fully understands what's coming up, what the expectations are, and that they have all the equipment they'll need.
Finally, we review our vans, equipment, and unit. As I'm no longer using the vans or machinery day to day, these meetings are a great way to ensure everything is being maintained properly, serviced when required, and looked after by the team.
Communication is one of the biggest factors in running a successful business. Taking an hour on a Monday morning keeps everyone aligned, prevents problems before they happen, and helps us deliver the high standards our clients expect every week.
I hope everyone has an amazing week ahead.

From the opening bell, Leon showed exactly why he’s one of the most exciting young talents around. His boxing IQ, composure, and technical ability were on another level. Every shot was picked with precision, every movement had a purpose, and he never allowed himself to be dragged into a messy fight.

While others rely on power and aggression, Leon showed the true art of boxing — staying disciplined, sticking to the game plan, and outclassing his opponent from start to finish. It was a masterclass performance and a clear demonstration of the talent, dedication, and hard work he puts in behind the scenes.
