We welcomed the team from Historic Environment Scotland Archive for a visit to our office.

We’re delighted that they’re keen to take our collection of historic drawings, carefully preserved in our attic. As an architectural practice dating back to 1898, our archive tells the story of more than a century of architecture, craftsmanship and design.

It’s exciting to know these drawings will be preserved for future generations, ensuring this small part of Scotland’s architectural heritage remains accessible for years to come.

A piece of our history is proudly displayed in our reception.

This original brass plate was installed by William Gauldie in 1898, when he established the practice as an ‘Architect & Ordained Surveyor’.

From those foundations, GWP has grown and evolved alongside advances in building design, construction techniques, materials and digital technology, while remaining committed to delivering quality architecture.

Displayed beneath it is our Investors in People Gold accreditation, a reminder that, while we’ve embraced change over more than 125 years, investing in our people remains at the heart of everything we do.

Designed around the client’s operational requirements, the new facility provides approximately 2,700m² of space, including a 2,400m² workshop and 300m² of office accommodation.

Key design features:
• Large clear-span workshop designed to accommodate overhead cranes.
• Multiple HGV access points with 12m concrete hardstanding surrounding the building.
• Future-proofed office accommodation designed to allow for a first-floor extension.
• Multiple sectional doors to maximise operational flexibility.
• Contemporary Gull Grey and Merlin Grey cladding with blue detailing reflecting the client’s corporate identity.

Every element of the design was developed to create a practical, adaptable facility that supports the client’s current operations while allowing for future growth.

We’re proud to have delivered another successful industrial project and look forward to seeing the building in operation.

Northwood House Conservatory Vision 🌿

The first image illustrates our client’s vision for the future of this beautiful historic conservatory. Swipe to see the space as it stands today after years of neglect and a lack of purpose.

Following a structural review, it was determined that the conservatory could be retained through careful repair rather than replacement. Our role was to prepare a robust conservation statement to support sensitive interventions, including replica timber repairs and upgraded thermal glazing, ensuring the building’s character is preserved while improving its long-term usability.

The aspiration is to create a vibrant communal hub at the heart of the development.

Preserved within GWP’s archives, this original tracing paper drawing from Dundee Sheriff Court offers a fascinating glimpse into the planning of one of Dundee’s landmark civic buildings.

Designed in the 1830s and completed in 1863, the court remains part of the city’s architectural story today.
