Why SupertrampedCo? 🌿🚐🌲

Named after the true story of Christopher McCandless, who became Alexander Supertramp in “Into the Wild” and walked away from the life the world had already written for him. A name that, to me, has always carried a little rebellion in it. A “f**k you” to conformity, to the system, to following the crowd simply because everyone else does.

Over the years, I’ve left little nods to “Into the Wild” in my builds. Little reminders of where the name came from and what it has always meant. But this year, in Juno, the words felt more fitting than ever.

After a lifetime of working, her owners have finally retired. No more clocks dictating their days. No more asking Brenda a year in advance for permission to have seven fu***ng days of their own lives. Just two people, their home on wheels, and a road ahead that belongs entirely to them. A new chapter with nowhere they have to be, and everywhere they could go.

So there could only really be one quote for Juno and her owners…

“They now walk into the wild.”

This Angle Is Why Mr Supertramped Owns Three 508s… With A 4th On The Horizon. 😮‍💨🔥🔞

I often wonder whether the person who designed the Mercedes 508 ever realised quite what they had created.

Half a century later, it still possesses a presence that most modern vehicles could only dream of. Add in the ultra rare sliding passenger door and… well… if this isn’t automotive p**n, I don’t know what is. 🤤🌿🚐

Juno Through a Different Lens. 🚐 🌿📸

Fisheye photography isn’t normally my thing. It can often exaggerate the size of a space and tell the wrong story.

Every now and then, though, it does exactly the opposite. It captures the atmosphere, the light and the feeling of being inside in a way that a conventional lens simply can’t.

So I thought I’d share a different perspective of Juno…

The Pinnacle of My Passion. 🌿🚐

Every SupertrampedCo creation has its own personality. Some are rugged, some are quirky and some are stealth.

But when it comes to a classic Mercedes, this… this is where the fire inside me burns brightest.

To me, this is timeless design at its very best, and I genuinely believe the Mercedes 508 is one of the most beautifully designed commercial vehicles ever built. Bringing one back to this standard, where it looks as though it’s just rolled off the Mercedes-Benz production line despite being over 40 years old, is about as good as it gets for me.

I genuinely can’t explain it, but seeing one looking this packet fresh as it rolls out of Supertramped HQ stirs something deep within my bones.

To me, this is the absolute pinnacle of a SupertrampedCo classic creation, and it’s a standard I’ll hold myself to for the rest of my life.

I am incredibly proud to finally present to you… Juno Through Film. 🌿🎥😍🚐

Photographs and film are two completely different ways of experiencing a build. Photographs allow you to pause and appreciate the finer details, the craftsmanship and the individual moments. Film brings everything together. It captures the movement, the changing light and the atmosphere, giving you a much better sense of the space and how Juno feels as a whole.

I genuinely believe both are equally beautiful, but in very different ways. If yesterday’s photographs showed you what Juno looks like, I hope today’s film gives you a sense of what it’s actually like to be inside her and experience the space as a whole.

I know these longer films have never performed particularly well on social media, but that’s okay. They’re how I’ve always documented my work, and that’s not something I’m going to change. Every rolling home deserves to have its story told properly, not simply adapted to suit the latest social media trend.

These films also become a permanent part of my website and portfolio, allowing their owners, future clients and anyone else to experience each build for years to come.

Thank you, as always, for taking the time to follow my journey. I truly hope this film reaches you because I’m having some serious issues with the social media algorithms at the moment. I am incredibly proud to finally present to you… Juno. 🌿😍🚐

Juno’s owners came to me with a beautiful real life moodboard, and the feeling running through it was earthy, calming and joyful, with warm terracotta tones, muted greens, soft yellow hues and natural timber. The aim was to create a space that felt full of soul, homely, grounded and warm.

They wanted a space where they could switch off from the outside world and enjoy peace and privacy. That philosophy even guided the window placement, resulting in windows being fitted to just one side of the vehicle. The result is a living space and bedroom that feel more sheltered, intimate and tucked away.

The moodboard influenced far more than just the interior. Alongside creating a space that felt earthy, calming and full of soul, there was also a strong desire to preserve as much of Juno’s original character as possible. By keeping one side of the vehicle free from additional windows and retaining solid rear doors, Juno maintains a cleaner, more purposeful silhouette while preserving the proportions and character that make these classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles so distinctive.

The exterior colour was chosen with exactly the same philosophy, complementing the palette within while remaining sympathetic to the vehicle’s heritage. Rather than choosing a modern colour, one of the original Mercedes factory paint options available when Juno was built was deliberately selected. It not only sat perfectly alongside the warm terracotta tones, muted greens and soft yellow hues inside, but also allowed the exterior to retain the authenticity and timelessness that make these classic Mercedes Benz vehicles so special.

Although I physically built Juno, she has very much been a collaborative project. Her owners brought ideas, inspiration and a clear sense of how they wanted her to feel, while I brought my own ideas, experience and vision to the table. Through years of conversations, shared ideas, trust and craftsmanship, those thoughts gradually evolved into the rolling home you see today.

Recently, I shared Juno’s review and, to me, that’s one of the most important things a small business could ever receive.

Anyone can post beautiful photographs of finished work, but beautiful work is only half the story. To me, a customer’s review is everything because it tells you what the experience was actually like. You can build the most incredible rolling home in the world, but if you’ve been a fu***ng do*****ag throughout the process, then you’ve only done half the job.

Don’t get me wrong, building a bespoke rolling home isn’t all flowers, rainbows and unicorns. There are challenges, delays, unforeseen problems, difficult decisions and honest conversations along the way. That’s simply the reality of creating something completely bespoke. But if, after all of that, your customer chooses to write a review like Kim and Martyn did about Juno, then, to me, that says absolutely everything. That’s why reviews like Juno’s will always mean more to me than any photograph ever could.

Years ago, I’d share something as simple as a light fitting and thousands upon thousands of people would see it. When I shared Rumi, over 9 million people ended up seeing that post. Today, it’s a completely different world.

Juno’s review reached just 426 people out of 46,276 followers.

Less than 1%.

That genuinely saddened me. Not because I was chasing likes. In fact, over the years I’ve learnt that most enquiries, bookings and opportunities come from the thousands of people quietly following along in the background.

What saddened me most was knowing that the vast majority of people who chose to follow this journey never even had the chance to read what my customers had to say. Their words will always carry more weight than anything I could ever write about myself.
