This one didn’t look too bad from the bottom, but my gosh it was choked up at the top!

Soot buildup at the top of an exposed chimney stack is primarily caused by cold flue temperatures causing smoke to condense, exacerbated by burning unseasoned wood or, in the case of wood stoves, "slumbering" the fire. The topmost part of a chimney is the coldest point, making it the primary location for exhaust gases to turn into solid creosote and soot.

I have a few appointments left in May if anyone would like to get on top of their chimney clean. May is the perfect time if you have a stove with a liner and bird guard as it removes corrosive soot and highlights any issues in time to have them fixed before the Autumn!
