A day in the life of a holiday let cleaner... 😅

Today's shift went something like this...

🚗 Set off to exchange bedding with one of the team.

📱 Phone battery died. No sat nav. Never a great start!

🏪 Stopped to buy a charging cable... bought the wrong one.

⛽ Stopped again at a garage, bought another cable and finally got my phone charging.

🏡 Arrived at the first property... couldn't get in because I didn't have the access codes. Waited for the phone to charge enough to receive them.

🚻 By this point I was absolutely bursting for the loo!

📞 The codes turned out to be wrong, so another phone call for the correct ones.

🧹 Finally got inside, stripped the beds, emptied the bins, polished everything, and let my phone charge while I worked.

🚗 Headed to the next property... only to realise I was at the wrong one!

📞 Another phone call to get directions.

🏡 Eventually found the right property... but my phone had died again, so I had to wait for enough charge to receive the access codes.

🚪 Then I couldn't get the door open! Another call later and I finally got inside.

🛏️ Made the bed, topped up the toilet roll and dishwasher tablets, and eventually headed home.

By the end of the day I was...
🥵 Exhausted.
🍽️ Starving.
💦 Sweaty.

People often think holiday let cleaning is "just cleaning."

In reality, it's driving, planning, problem-solving, carrying laundry, dealing with access issues, working to tight deadlines, and finding solutions when things don't go to plan—all while making sure every guest walks into a spotless property.

Today certainly tested my patience... but tomorrow we'll do it all again! 😂

About the Role

We're looking for an organised, confident and hands-on Operations & Quality Manager to help oversee the day-to-day running of our growing holiday let cleaning business.

This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You'll spend your time supporting cleaning teams, carrying out quality inspections, resolving issues, coaching staff and ensuring every property is presented to the highest possible standard for arriving guests.

Key Responsibilities

- Carry out quality inspections across holiday let properties.
- Support, coach and motivate cleaning teams.
- Conduct spot checks and property audits.
- Deal with staff queries and day-to-day operational issues.
- Ensure company standards and checklists are consistently followed.
- Respond to guest or owner concerns and organise prompt resolutions.
- Liaise with the office regarding schedules and operational changes.
- Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate records.
- Assist with staff inductions and ongoing training.
- Help drive continuous improvement across the business.

About You

You'll be someone who:

- Has previous supervisory, management or team leader experience.
- Has excellent attention to detail.
- Is confident managing and supporting people.
- Can work independently and make decisions.
- Has good communication and organisational skills.
- Is reliable, flexible and professional.

Essential Requirements

- Full UK driving licence.
- Own reliable vehicle.
- Willingness to travel between properties across Ayrshire.
- Business mileage allowance provided.

We are looking for reliable, hardworking individuals to join our growing team cleaning holiday accommodation across North and South Ayrshire.

About the Role

Working in teams of two, you will prepare holiday properties to a high standard between guest departures and arrivals.

Duties include:

Cleaning kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and living areas

Making beds and presenting properties to a hotel standard

Checking for maintenance issues and reporting any concerns

Restocking guest supplies where required

Ensuring every property is guest-ready for check-in

The Doing It For Daniel Foundation is a Scottish children's cancer charity founded in 2021 in memory of Daniel Caplan, who died from an aggressive childhood brain tumour called Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG/DIPG) at the age of 17. The charity was established by his family to support other children and young people facing cancer.

Their main aims are:

Providing financial assistance to children and young people with cancer.

Funding special gifts, experiences, days out and holidays for families affected by cancer.

Supporting families whose children are receiving treatment at the Royal Hospital for Children and the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

Raising funds for childhood brain tumour research, particularly into DIPG/DMG.

One of their best-known projects is Daniel's Beach House, a holiday apartment in Ayr where families affected by childhood cancer can enjoy a free break during or after treatment. Families who have lost a child to cancer can also apply for a stay.

The charity is registered in Scotland as SC051123 and is based in the west of Scotland.

Remember I mentioned Alannah's skydive on 30 August 2026 for Doing It For Daniel, so this is the charity she is fundraising for. They are a well-regarded local charity and every year run events such as golf days, charity lunches and other fundraising activities
