Buying your first espresso machine? Three decisions matter more than the brand name.

Shopping for a first machine gets confusing fast — semi-automatic, super-automatic, built-in grinder, dual boiler. Before you start comparing models, three questions narrow the field:

1ïžâƒŁ Built-in grinder, or a separate one? An all-in-one is simpler at first, but a lot of home baristas outgrow the built-in grinder within a matter of months and end up buying a separate one anyway.

2ïžâƒŁ Mostly lattes, or mostly straight espresso? Machines built for fast, back-to-back milk drinks work differently than ones built for espresso alone.

3ïžâƒŁ How is your budget split? Our guide's grinder-first take: grind quality shapes the shot as much as the machine does, so it's worth budgeting for both — not just the machine.

Get those three right, and picking an actual model gets a lot easier. We break down all three — plus specific picks for beginners, milk-drink lovers and small kitchens — in our full guide: https://kitchepicks.com/best-semi-automatic-espresso-machines-for-home/

The rice cooker in this photo isn't one of the 7 picks in our 2026 guide. Worth saying up front.

The Yum Asia Kumo YumCarb is listed with a ceramic-coated bowl, advanced fuzzy logic, 5 rice functions and 3 multicooker functions, at 5.5 cups of uncooked white rice. Fuzzy logic is the part that matters most there: the cooker adjusts heat and timing during the cycle instead of running one fixed program and shutting off.

What we can't tell you is how it holds up against the field, because we didn't test it.

What we did compare: 7 rice cookers drawn from 14 models, judged on rice texture across varieties, keep-warm at 2 and 4 hours, ease of programming, inner pot durability and cleanup. Three of the 7 are Zojirushi. The Best Overall pick is a fuzzy logic model too.

So if the Kumo is on your shortlist, the useful next step is seeing what it would be up against on those five criteria.

63 decibels. That's the first thing our air fryer guide flags about the Ninja Air Fryer Pro. It still finished 2nd out of 8.

The fryer in this video is the Ninja Air Fryer Pro 5 Qt, model AF141: a 5-quart basket, 4 functions (Air Fry, Roast, Reheat, Dehydrate), 400°F max, rated 1,750W. Basket and crisper plate both go in the dishwasher.

It's our Best Mid-Range pick for 2026. The COSORI TurboBlaze is the model that took first place. Two things the guide flags on the Ninja: it's noticeably louder than the COSORI at 63 dB under load, and the crisper plate slides when you tilt the basket to check your food.

400°F is worth noting because that's the ceiling on this model, and frozen fries at 400°F is the baseline test in the ranking.

The attachments decide this purchase more often than the motor does.

That's what most people miss when they shop for the best immersion blender. Two models will blend a pot of soup about equally well. What separates them is whether a chopper bowl and a whisk come in the box, or whether you're buying those separately later.

The Braun MultiQuick 7 (MQ7035) pictured here ships with both, plus the beaker. Braun lists ActiveBlade and SplashControl among its features. It's our Best Overall pick in the 2026 guide, where we ranked 7 models out of 12+ evaluated.

Why that combination matters on a normal weeknight:

- Soup gets blended in the pot. No transferring hot liquid into a jar.
- The chopper takes onions, herbs and nuts without dragging out the food processor.
- The whisk does cream and eggs, so the hand mixer stays in the cupboard.
- One motor body to wash instead of three appliances.

Worth knowing before you buy: attachments are a real ranking axis, not a bonus. A different model took our Best for Attachments spot, and Braun landed 2 of the 7 places on the list.

Cordless, quietest, budget and premium each went to a different brand. Which one fits you depends on which of those you care about.

Most people shop a coffee machine by drink count. The grinder is what decides how any of them taste. ☕

The De'Longhi Rivelia is built around that idea. 16 drinks on a one-touch touchscreen, and every one starts with whole beans ground at the moment you press the button — espresso, cappuccino, latte-style milk drinks, no portafilter, no measuring.

The feature worth understanding is the bean hoppers. They come off. That means regular beans in the morning and decaf after dinner — you lift off one hopper and drop in the other, beans sealed inside, instead of emptying the machine. A daily annoyance designed out, not a spec-sheet line.

So is it the right machine for your kitchen? That depends on things a product page won't tell you: how much counter space you have, how often you make milk drinks, and how much cleaning you're willing to do on a Tuesday night.

That's what the comparison is for. Our 2026 guide lines up the super-automatic espresso machines worth considering — what each one is designed for, how the milk systems differ, and which ones suit a smaller counter.

If you're researching the best super automatic espresso machine 2026 has to offer, start with the comparison, not with one machine.

It's not wood. It's not plastic. Most people can't name what an Epicurean cutting board is made of.

That matters more than it sounds. The material decides how a board treats your knives, whether it survives the dishwasher, and how long before it looks worn out. Most of us pick a board on size and price, then live with it twice a day for years.

The board here is the Epicurean 96012 Kitchen Natural. Slim profile, circular handle opening, and it's positioned as both knife safe and dishwasher safe, which is a pairing you don't see often on one board.

Our Epicurean cutting board review covers what it's made of, how it holds up for everyday kitchen prep, and the honest drawbacks worth knowing before you order. There are trade-offs. Whether they matter depends on how you cook.

What's the last cutting board you replaced, and why did it go?

15/09/2026

You'll spend more on a knife than on a cutting board. The board is the one taking a beating twice a day.

The board in this video is the Epicurean 96012, kitchen natural — thin, light, with a built-in circular handle. Chop your mushrooms, tomatoes and herbs, then put the whole thing in the dishwasher.

If you're comparing boards right now, our Epicurean cutting board review is the honest version. It covers what the board does well for everyday food preparation, and where it falls short next to end-grain wood — the surface is harder, the chopping is louder, and knife marks do show over time.

Whether any of that is a dealbreaker depends entirely on how you cook. Read the full review before you buy:

What's on your counter right now — wood, plastic, or composite?

One of the immersion blenders we evaluated lost a blade mid-test.

That's the part nobody tells you before you buy. We put 12+ models through the same 5 tests for our best immersion blender guide, and 3 didn't make the cut at all — one for the blade coming off during ice blending, one for motor strain on a single-speed design, one that came out loud, weak at purĂ©eing, and gave off a slight burning odor.

The Braun MultiQuick 7 (MQ7035) in this clip is the one that finished at the top. It's our Best Overall pick after soup blending, smoothie texture at high speed, a mayonnaise emulsification test, cleanup speed, and ergonomics over a long session.

What the clip walks through: tomatoes and herbs to sauce in the beaker, the mini chopper on onions and nuts, the whisk swapped on for cream. Braun lists SplashControl and its ActiveBlade shaft among the features.

Three things that actually decide this purchase:

- You blend in the pot. Hot soup never gets ladled into a countertop jar.
- Variable speed is the difference between sauce and soup.
- The attachments decide whether it replaces a second appliance or sits beside one.

The Braun is our top pick, not the only sensible one. Cordless, quietest, budget and premium each went to a different model.

Drink count is what people shop on. The grinder is what decides how the coffee tastes.

The white De'Longhi Rivelia in this video is the machine our 2026 guide ranks Best Overall out of the 14+ super-automatics it evaluated. 16 drinks on a color touchscreen, and every one of them starts with whole beans ground the moment you press the button.

The feature worth understanding is the bean hoppers. They come off. Espresso beans at 7am, decaf after dinner, without emptying the machine or running beans through to clear the old ones out. That's a daily annoyance solved, not a spec-sheet line.

If you're comparing bean-to-cup machines right now, the Rivelia sits around $1,499 at the time of writing, at the top of a range that starts near $299 in the same guide. Which is exactly why the comparison matters more than any single machine. The 9 picks are sorted by what people need: best value, quietest, most compact, easiest milk system to clean.

Espresso, cappuccino and latte macchiato are one touch on most of them. What separates them is grinder quality, the milk system, and how much cleaning you'll do on a Tuesday night.
