Buyer Beware!!!
Is Your "Clean" Home Actually a Legal Risk?
We all love the feeling of walking into a fresh, sparkling home. But in my 30 years of cleaning experience and 9 years owning Maid With Heart House Cleaning in our wonderful community,
I’ve seen too many homeowners take risks they didn’t even know existed.
Professional cleaning isn’t just about a vacuum and mop. It’s about chemicals, procedures, and protection. Before you let anyone into your sanctuary, please ask these 5 critical questions:
1. Are they insured?
This is the big one. If a person or company is not insured and they get injured on your property, you can be held liable and sued. A true professional carries their own liability insurance to protect both themselves and you.
2. If they have staff, do they have WCB?
Safety in the workplace is vital at all times. Professional companies must follow specific protocols and regulations, which includes having Workers' Compensation Board coverage. This ensures staff are protected and the business is operating legally.
3. How much "Professional" experience do they have?
Anyone can claim to be a house cleaner, but there is a science to what we do. Ask if they have taken courses in chemical and procedural aspects of cleaning. Experience and work ethic matter when it comes to protecting your health and your home's surfaces.
4. What is their rates?
I have seen some "ridiculous" things lately regarding pricing. A professional does their homework on the rates for our specific demographic. Currently, in our area, a single professional cleaner should range between $25 to $40 per hour.
Also, a client should not be expected to pre-pay for services until the client is satisfied with services provided.
5. Do they provide a service checklist?
Transparency is everything. A professional should provide a clear list of the duties performed. This ensures nothing is missed and creates clear expectations for the service provided. You should always know exactly what you are paying for!
*PLEASE NOTE*
Always be sure to get 3 quotes!
The Bottom Line...
Your home is your biggest investment. Don’t trust it to just anyone—trust someone with the heart, the credentials, and the decades of experience to do it right.
I hope this post is of assistance to someone, and have an amazing day.
Remember, it is a privilege for you to allow anyone into your space for any reason!!
