If you spot water leaking from your washing machine, the first steps matter:

- Stop the water source if it is safe.
- Avoid electrical hazards.
- Move rugs, boxes, furniture, and valuables away from the water.
- Dry up what you safely can.
- Then watch for signs the moisture may have spread farther than it looks.

A washing machine leak can soak flooring, baseboards, drywall, cabinets, and nearby rooms faster than you think. Even when the surface looks dry, moisture can still be hiding underneath.

First General Kamloops provides professional water damage restoration, flood cleanup, drying, cleanup, and emergency restoration in Kamloops, Salmon Arm, Merritt, Clearwater, Chase, and surrounding areas.

If your washer floods your home, call First General Kamloops.

Spooky basement smell? It is probably not a ghost. 👻

When fall settles in and the windows stay closed, musty basement smells can become a lot harder to ignore. Sometimes it is just stale air, but sometimes that smell is your home trying to tell you something.

A musty odour can be connected to hidden moisture, past water damage, poor ventilation, or mold growth in areas you may not see right away.

Basements are especially good at keeping secrets.

Behind storage shelves.
Near the hot water tank.
Along concrete walls.
Around boxes, corners, and places people do not check very often.

If your basement smells damp, stale, or “off,” it is worth taking a closer look before the issue spreads.

First General Kamloops provides professional mold inspection, mold remediation, mold removal services, water damage restoration, and odour removal service in Kamloops, Salmon Arm, Merritt, Clearwater, Chase, and surrounding areas.

If your basement smells spooky, call First General Kamloops before the mystery gets bigger.

Water damage in a kitchen can feel especially stressful.

It is not just a room you walk past. It is where coffee is made, meals happen, lunches are packed, dishes pile up, and daily life keeps moving.

So when water damage happens, homeowners want more than cleanup. They want their kitchen restored properly, they want clear communication, and they want to know what is happening throughout the process.

That is why this review from Crystal means so much.

Farzad and Lalo helped with water damage cleanup and repair, kept her informed, worked quickly, and restored the kitchen so it looked exactly how it did before the work began.

That is the goal every time.

At First General Kamloops, we help homeowners with water damage restoration, emergency restoration, flood cleanup, drying, repairs, and property restoration in Kamloops and surrounding areas.

When water damage disrupts your home, we are here to help clean it up, repair it, and get your space back to feeling like home again.

🍂 Crisp air. Changing leaves. Cooler mornings.

Fall has a way of making home feel extra cozy, until the first heavy rain reminds you that gutters, downspouts and drainage matter more than we think.

When leaves build up in gutters, water can overflow in places it should not. It can run down siding, collect near the foundation, sneak into basements, or create moisture problems behind walls and flooring.

At first, it may not look dramatic.

A damp smell.
A small stain.
Water pooling beside the house.
A basement corner that feels a little too humid.
A gutter spilling over every time it rains.

Those are the kinds of clues homeowners should not ignore.

First General Kamloops provides professional water damage restoration, emergency restoration, flood cleanup and property restoration services in Kamloops, Salmon Arm, Merritt, Clearwater, Chase and surrounding areas.

If fall rain has already found its way inside, our team can help assess the damage, dry the space properly, clean up the mess and restore the affected area.

This season, enjoy the crisp air and falling leaves, but keep an eye on where the water is going.

Need help with water damage restoration? Call First General Kamloops.

🏡 Buying an older home? Add this to your “things to check” list.

Fresh paint, new floors and a cute kitchen can make a home feel move-in ready.
But if the home was built decades ago, there may still be older building materials behind the walls, under flooring, above ceiling tiles or around insulation that should not be disturbed without proper testing.

Asbestos can be found in some older flooring, drywall compound, ceiling texture, insulation and other building materials. It is usually not a problem when left undisturbed, but renovations, repairs, demolition, leaks or damage can change that.

That is why asbestos testing is an important safety step for home buyers, especially if you are planning renovations after possession.

First General Kamloops provides professional asbestos testing, asbestos abatement and hazardous material removal services in Kamloops, Salmon Arm, Merritt, Clearwater, Chase and surrounding areas.

Before you start pulling up floors, opening walls or removing old ceiling texture, know what you are working with.

Buying an older home in Kamloops or the surrounding area? Call First General Kamloops for asbestos testing before renovation work begins.

💧 The 007 of leak detection has entered the cabinet.

Because water damage does not always arrive with dramatic music.

Sometimes it starts with one tiny leak under the sink. Quiet. Sneaky. Acting innocent while it plans a very expensive future.

That is where water sensors come in.

Placed under sinks, behind appliances, near hot water tanks, in basements, crawl spaces, or anywhere a slow leak could hide, water sensors can help alert you before a small drip turns into a bigger water damage restoration job.

Think of them as your home’s undercover leak detector.

Small. Quiet. Very committed to exposing suspicious puddles.

And if your sensor catches something, or you already see signs of water damage, First General Kamloops can help with drying, cleanup, emergency restoration, and water damage restoration.

A small alert today can help prevent a big mess tomorrow.
