One of my favourite times of year to be out on the road. 🍂

The cooler working temperatures, the fall colours, and best of all… no bugs!

The truck might be a little dirty from spending the day on the back roads, but sometimes the most beautiful spots are a little off the beaten path.

Septic Awareness Week – Let’s Talk Effluent Filters

Did you know there may be a filter inside your septic tank that needs regular cleaning?

Since May 2013, effluent filters have been required on new residential septic tanks in Nova Scotia. But I find many homeowners don’t realize they have one — or that it needs to be cleaned more often than the tank needs to be pumped.

The filter is located at the outlet of the tank and helps prevent solids from making their way into your disposal field. It’s a simple piece of equipment, but an important one — and like any filter, it needs a little maintenance.

Not sure if you have one? Just ask me the next time I’m there to pump your tank. I’d be happy to show you where it is, what it does, and how to clean it yourself.

A little preventative maintenance can go a long way toward protecting your septic system.

Septic tank risers? I can’t say enough good things about them.

Selfishly, they make my job easier. 😅
But for the homeowner, they’re well worth the investment too.

For many people, their septic system is out of sight and out of mind. A riser eliminates the guesswork by bringing access to the tank up to ground level, making pumping, maintenance and emergency service much easier.

Because when your toilet won’t flush, that’s probably not the moment you want to start a backyard treasure hunt looking for your septic tank.

It’s been a little quiet on here lately, but definitely not out on the road!
