Meet Bert :)
As pest controllers, we spend our days managing wild rodent issues within Western Sydney homes, schools, and restaurants. So we completely understand the contradiction here but there is a world of difference between a wild pest and a tame pet.
Yesterday, we were called out to a job only to find a domesticated, incredibly friendly pet rat that had been abandoned when his owners moved out. For the brief time we looked after him, we called him Bert.
We know everyone goes through difficult times and has their own struggles, so we aren't here to judge anyone's circumstances. But we really want to share a gentle reminder: pets of any kind are a commitment. No matter what species they are, they rely entirely on us and never deserve to be simply left behind.
Thankfully, Bert’s story has a happy ending. We reached out to some amazing local vets and a pet store who kindly checked him over to make sure he was healthy. We are happy to report that we found a safe, comfortable spot where Bert can live out his days in peace.
Please look out for your animals, and if you ever find yourself in a position where you can no longer care for a pet, please reach out to local shelters, rescues, or vets who can help find a safe path forward.
