Let's annihilate a couple of myths about building pools.

First one?

All pool equipment is pretty much the same.
That's a big no.

The equipment you choose affects how your pool feels, how much work it takes to maintain, how much energy it uses and how easy it is to manage.
So when you're talking to your pool building, don’t just ask what’s included. Ask why it’s been recommended.

Then ask for Pool Controls.

The pool is finished.
The customer is happy.
And you’ve moved onto the next job.
So the last thing you want is a call saying something isn’t working.

Reliable equipment isn’t just good for the pool owner.
It helps protect the builder’s time, reputation and relationship with their customer too.
The most expensive equipment problem for a pool builder.
The one that sends you back to site.

Let's avoid that.

We're heading into summer, AKA peak pool season, so let’s have a quick chat about stabiliser.

As in… what even IS it?

Basically, it’s sunscreen for your chlorine. ☀️💦

Here’s what you need to know:

Q: Why do I need it?
Stabiliser helps stop the sun’s UV rays from breaking down your chlorine too quickly. And with more sun in summer, it matters even more.

Q: What happens if it’s too low?
Your chlorine can disappear faster. You might be constantly topping it up, or notice cloudy or green water creeping in. Nobody wants that two days before Christmas.

Q: Can I have too much?
Yep! More isn’t better. Too much stabiliser can actually make your chlorine less effective.

Q: How do I know if it’s right?
Test it. You can’t eyeball this one. Your local pool shop can check it, or use a suitable home test kit.

Q: What level should it be?
It depends on your pool and sanitising system, so always follow the recommendations for your equipment.

Q: What if it’s out of whack?
Too low? Stabiliser can be added.
Too high? You may need to replace some pool water.

And please, no “she’ll be right, chuck a bit more in.” 😉
Test it. Balance it. Then get back in the pool.

Sometimes, we don't need to say much. Thank you for the fantastic feedback!

It’s very easy to get caught up choosing the fun stuff. Pool shape. Tiles. Colour. Landscaping. Hugely important, of course!

But don't forget the equipment, because what you choose now will have a big impact on how easy your pool is to own, and manage, for later.

Here are some questions for you:

1. How will my pool water be sanitised?
Salt chlorination? Mineral? Ozone? A combination?
Ask what the options are and what each means for water quality, ongoing costs and maintenance.

2. How much maintenance will it need?
How much is automated? What will I actually need to do each week? And can technology do some of the work for me?

3. Can I heat it?
Heat pump? Solar? Another option?
If you want a longer swimming season, think about heating before the pool goes in.

4. Can I automate it?
Can I control filtration, heating, sanitisation or other equipment from my phone? Can I check what’s happening when I’m not home?

5. Who helps me if something goes wrong?
Who do I call? Is there local support? Can parts be easily sourced? And will someone actually pick up the phone?

You've got to live with this pool for 5, 10, 20 years, so make the right choices at the beginning.

Finally. Someone (or something...?) else can clean the pool.

46 years of working with Australian pools have taught us a few things.

For starters, pool OWNERS want to spend more time in the pool rather than figuring out how the equipment works.

Pool BUILDERS want equipment that does what it says on the box.

And when someone needs help, they want an actual human who knows their stuff.

We actually knew that stuff back at the start, so while the equipment has improved, and there is more of it, the approach remains the same.

- Make it reliable.

- Make it simple.
- Look after the people installing it.
- Pick up the phone.
- And keep making it better.

Yeah. In 46 years there have been a lot of pools. And a lot of great pool parties!
