Heliocol Solar Pool Heating by Magen Solar Pool Heating for an Indoor Pool in Eagle Bay
The owner of an approximately 100,000-litre indoor pool in Eagle Bay contacted Pool Heating Solutions WA with concerns about the existing heat pump’s ability to heat the water cost-effectively.
The owner wanted to explore adding solar heating as a hybrid system, working alongside the heat pump to help reduce running costs. The aim was for solar to provide the main heating contribution during the warmer months, reducing reliance on the heat pump.
With no direct sunshine reaching the pool, James assessed the property’s available roof space. He reviewed aerial imagery alongside photographs of the equipment room and existing plumbing.
The metal roof offered room for Heliocol rigid solar panels, with the layout planned around skylights and roof obstructions. The below-ground equipment room and underground supply and return pipes also required consideration when planning the system’s connections and controls.
Pool Heating Solutions WA installed 15 Heliocol panels, each measuring 1.2 m × 3.85 m, providing 69.3 m² of solar collector area on the roof—equivalent to approximately 104% of the pool’s 66.67 m² surface area.
The rooftop collectors capture solar energy and transfer that heat to the indoor pool through circulating water. This approach makes use of the available sunshine while retaining the heat pump as an additional heating source when needed.
