🍯 Do you really know what’s in your honey?
Recent laboratory testing has raised serious questions about the authenticity of Aldi’s Bramwells Mixed Flora Honey.
The product, which sits on supermarket shelves alongside 100% Australian honey, contains just 20% Australian honey according to its country-of-origin labelling.
Now, laboratory testing has reportedly detected foreign sugars in the product, raising concerns about whether the remaining imported ingredients are entirely genuine honey.
Aldi has defended the quality and purity of its product but has not publicly disclosed the origin of the remaining 80%.
So, why does this matter?
Because Australia’s beekeepers are already doing it tough.
Cheap imported honey has been flooding the Australian market for years, driving down prices and making it increasingly difficult for local beekeepers to compete.
While Australian beekeepers face rising costs, unpredictable seasons, disease pressures and the enormous responsibility of maintaining healthy colonies, they’re competing against imported products that can be sold for a fraction of the price.
And when those products are potentially diluted with inexpensive sugar syrups, the playing field becomes even more uneven.
But this goes beyond the price of a jar of honey.
🐝 Our beekeepers do so much more than produce honey.
They maintain healthy bee populations, support biodiversity and provide essential pollination services to Australian agriculture. Without a sustainable beekeeping industry, the consequences extend well beyond supermarket shelves.
At Swarm SE, we believe honey should be exactly what it claims to be.
Our honey is 100% Australian, raw and unblended, sourced from trusted beekeepers who share our commitment to bee welfare, transparency and sustainable beekeeping practices.
We know where our honey comes from, and we think you deserve to know too.
The next time you reach for a jar of honey, take a moment to read the label.
Because choosing Australian honey isn’t just about supporting a local business. It’s about supporting the people, bees and ecosystems that make genuine Australian honey possible.
Many hives. One Swarm. 🐝
