The 2024 NSW commercial kangaroo harvest was 532,415 kangaroos for all species across all harvest zones. This represents only 5.5% of the population (and 35.9% of the commercial kangaroo harvest quota). The Broken Hill zone contributed the highest number of kangaroos, with 19% of the total harvest. There were low numbers of kangaroos harvested in Tibooburra and Bourke zones (1.6% and 0.6% of the harvest respectively). The frustrating part of all this is that activists expend so much time and energy protesting the commercial harvest (that is conducted in accordance with strict welfare guidelines), but won't lift a finger to help when unsustainably high kangaroo proulations and drought conditions collide.
