Maitland Camera Club

Maitland Camera Club We are a Camera Club for all persons interested in photography Brief History of the Maitland Camera Club. That was then and this is now.

The club was born during a meeting convened by the late Mr Athol D'Ombrain in July 1959. The meeting was held at the Maitland City Library and it was decided to run competitions in black and white and colour photos and movies. The movies were not popular and were abandoned before the Club’s second meeting. A professional photographer Mr Peter Goodwin chaired the first meeting and was elected to th

e President’s position. Mr Elphie was elected Secretary and Miss Gwen Farrell elected treasurer. A constitution based on the one used by the Newcastle Photographic Society was drawn up and the club was operational. We still cater for Black and White photographs as well as the more popular colour photos. Technology has changed the equipment we use to capture our images. It has also changed the way we produce our prints. One thing hasn't changed though, it still takes skill, talent and a thorough knowledge of one’s equipment to produce images of excellence. These days electronic images viewed by digital projector are the modern slides. Many people believe that the modern slide is a cleaner more vibrant image too. The majority of today's prints are captured with digital cameras and the prints are mostly printed at home by the author on inkjet printers.
