Well, who would have thought that the 2026 Monochrome It’s A Knockout would transport us all to Brokeback Mountain!
Emerging through the pre-dawn mist came a young cowboy, impeccably turned out and looking as though he’d wandered straight off the set of a Hollywood western… or perhaps was on his way to a Cleo centre-fold photoshoot (for those who remember Cleo!).

It was one of those images that had everyone grinning from ear to ear and proved that a great competition photograph doesn’t always have to be serious—it just has to make an impact.
Congratulations to Sue Joy for capturing the moment, remembering it was tucked away in the archives, and entering it in It’s A Knockout. It certainly struck a chord with members and had us smiling, laughing, and voting all the way to the final round.

Last night, the Maitland Camera Club had the pleasure of inviting Carl Hensel to present on his life in photography; where he started, the journey, and where he is now.

From humble beginnings, he developed a niche in photographing weight training and body building. He showed us some great images of muscle men (and ladies) and now with motorcycles and the owners. He shared his lighting techniques, studio setup projects and camera use - great stuff.

For any photo club who wants an interesting presenter about photography, contact Carl. He’s a very humble person. He lives in the Newcastle area.

From the workshop last night. A 2 minute and thirty second exposure at f29 100iso 100mm Lens. I wanted to show passage of time..... I should have set the time to 5 minutes to midnight that would fit with the wonderful leaf skeletons and ageing. Thanks to Debbie for putting it together and supplying the props, and to Mick for his technical expertise. It was a heap of fun.

2nd June Meeting Cancelled
Due to a clash in auditorium bookings at the Kurri Kurri Bowling Club, the club meeting scheduled for Tuesday 2nd June will unfortunately not be able to proceed.

Our June Competition Night will instead be held on: Tuesday 9th June

As a result, the deadline for image submissions in the MyPhotoClub system has been extended to: Sunday 7th June

Our monthly competition was held Tuesday night, with the set subject being Creative. Our guest judge, Peter O’Brien provided thoughtful critique and comments that were both welcomed and appreciated. Congratulations to the winners in both the Advanced and Open categories, and thank you to those who entered and contributed to another successful night.

Our monthly competition was held Tuesday night with the set subject being nature, and our guest judge was Ian English. It is always nice to have Ian visit our club, and his critique and comments are appreciated. Our digital all-rounder was nature in mono. A huge congratulations to the winners in both the advanced and the open categories, and thank you to all those who entered.
