Back at a Reservoir property this week for the 30-day follow-up. The mud lead running up the subfloor stump looked exactly the same as the day we treated it. Same width, same shape, same path along the timber.

That's the moment a follow-up inspection is really designed for. A quiet mud lead on the outside doesn't tell you much. A Werribee family lit candles, bought three different air fresheners, and waited two weeks for the smell in their roof to fade. It didn't. It got worse.

When we opened up the roof cavity, we found a possum that had died right next to the ducted heating vent. Every time the heater kicked on, the gases were being pushed through the whole house.

Here's what most people don't realise. A medium-sized animal like a possum can produce odour for three to six weeks. The two gases responsible, putrescine and cadaverine, don't get "cancelled out" by air fresheners. The spray just competes with them for a few hours, then loses.
