🌿 MEET THE TEAM – Marcus Gee 🌿

Marcus isn’t an employee, but a contractor who brings his own skills and experience to the business. He’s also been my biggest supporter throughout this journey!

From giving up his weekends to help me catch up on work, listening to my endless spontaneous ideas, and being there when the responsibilities I’ve taken on become overwhelming, Marcus has supported me through it all. He steps up at home, helps care for my daughter when work gets hectic, and often has dinner waiting when I get home on my late days.

I genuinely don’t think I could have achieved everything I have so far without his support!

Marcus is hardworking, resourceful and determined, is a hands on person who takes pride in his work and enjoys seeing a job through to completion. With a background in building and construction Marcus brings plenty of practical skills and experience.

He’s also recently taken the exciting leap into starting his own business, GEEnius projects.

Through his contracting work, Marcus assists Empowered Living by Sam with home maintenance, gardening and outdoor projects, helping clients maintain their homes and properties.

Outside of work, Marcus enjoys fishing, cutting wood, playing football and cricket.

His ideal weekend? Getting away, switching off and enjoying some well earned downtime. Although, more often than not you’ll find him working on something instead! Normally an Airbnb clean I have dragged him along too 😬

I’m incredibly proud of Marcus for starting his own business and grateful for everything he continues to do for mine. 🫶🏻

🌸 MEET THE TEAM – DAKODA 🌸

We’re excited to introduce Dakoda, one of the lovely new faces that has joined the Empowered Living by Sam team!

Dakoda describes herself as reliable, kind and caring, with a genuine passion for helping others. She loves being able to lend a hand with the things people may find difficult to manage themselves and takes pride in making a positive difference in their day.

Although Dakoda is just beginning her journey in the industry, she’s eager to learn, gain experience and provide a helping hand wherever she can.

Her goal is simple, to leave every client feeling refreshed, supported and cared for.

Outside of work, she loves spending time with her boyfriend and family, especially her nephew, or heading off on a camping trip.

🎶 Country music is always a winner!

🧽 Her favourite cleaning task? Wiping down dusty surfaces, there’s just something so satisfying about it!

❤️ Her family is what makes her smile the most.

🌿 EXPERIENCED SUPPORT WORKERS WANTED 🌿

Empowered Living by Sam is looking for one or two experienced Support Workers to join our growing team.

I’m looking for reliable, compassionate and confident workers who have 5+ years of experience in disability/community support work and are comfortable working with clients across a wide range of support needs from people requiring lower level assistance through to clients with high support needs, complex disabilities and significant communication or care requirements.

Applicants need to be adaptable, confident and able to provide safe, respectful and person centred support based on each individual client’s needs.

Applicants will ideally have:
• 5+ years relevant support work experience
• Experience supporting people with both lower support needs and high/complex support needs
• Current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration
• Current National Police Check
• Current First Aid & CPR
• Medication assistance/handling training or competency
• Relevant disability/community services qualifications and certifications
• A current driver’s licence and reliable transport
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Confidence working independently
• A genuine commitment to respectful, person-centred support

If some certifications such as First Aid, CPR or other required training have recently expired, I may be able to assist the right applicant with getting these updated.

Availability required:
Availability for approximately 2–3 shifts per week, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm, with the possibility of occasional weekend work when required.

This position will initially be offered on a casual employment contract. Hours may be minimal to begin with while clients are matched with the right worker, however there is significant potential for hours to increase as the business continues to grow.

For the right person, there may also be the opportunity to move into a permanent part time position as regular hours become available.

Consistency is extremely important to my clients, so wherever possible you will be matched with your own regular clients and ongoing shifts rather than being sent somewhere different every week.

I just want to take a moment to say how genuinely grateful I am for the clients I have

After being severely unwell last week, I ended up missing around 10 days of work and for a large part of that time I simply wasn’t well enough to function normally or keep everyone updated properly. I know that meant some of my clients were left a little in the dark with only a very brief explanation of what was happening.

Since letting everyone know that I’m feeling much better and returning to work this week, I’ve been absolutely blown away by the kindness and understanding I’ve received. Not one person has made me feel guilty for needing time away, been angry or made me feel like I had let them down. Instead, I’ve been met with kind messages, understanding, concern for how I’m feeling and people genuinely happy to welcome me back into their homes so I can continue supporting and helping them.

Running a small business has definitely been an eye opener. There can be so much negativity and unkindness in the world, but moments like this remind me just how many genuinely good people are out there, and I feel incredibly lucky to have so many of them supporting my little business. 🫶🏻

✨ Join the Empowered Living by Sam Team ✨

As Empowered Living by Sam continues to grow, and with some exciting opportunities opening up, I’m looking for a few reliable and genuine people who may be interested in joining my team on a casual basis.

Hours will be minimal to begin with however, there is plenty of opportunity for them to grow as the business continues to expand.

At the moment I’m looking for

💚 A Support Worker who is passionate about helping people maintain their independence and supporting them in their day to day lives.

🧼 A Regular Cleaner who has availability during business hours (available to work weekdays between 8:00am and 5:00pm as required) for residential cleaning and home support services.

🏡 An On Call Cleaner who has flexible availability for Airbnb cleans, end of lease cleans, deep cleans, holiday cover and those last minute jobs that occasionally pop up.

🌿 A Gardener / Property Maintenance person to assist with lawn mowing, whipper snipping, weeding, garden maintenance and general outdoor tidy ups.

I’m looking for people who are reliable, honest, friendly, take pride in their work, and can work both independently and as part of a team. A current driver’s licence, reliable vehicle and National Police Check are essential, and experience in cleaning, disability support, aged care, community services or gardening would be highly regarded depending on the role you’re applying for.

✨ Exciting times for Empowered Living by Sam! ✨

This Friday marks a huge milestone for my business, with my very first employee starting trial shifts! 🤗

It’s exciting, a little nerve racking, and something I’ve been working incredibly hard towards. While most people see the cleaning and support work, there’s been a lot happening behind the scenes creating policies and procedures, setting up payroll, bookkeeping, onboarding, and all the other admin that comes with growing a business.

I’m so grateful to all of my amazing clients for your continued support, recommendations and trust. Without you, this wouldn’t be possible.

Position Details:
Casual position
Potential for 10 hours per week
Residential and Airbnb cleaning
Opportunity for additional hours as the business expands

Personal Qualities:
Reliable, honest and trustworthy
Friendly, welcoming and professional
Able to work efficiently and independently without supervision
Strong attention to detail
Good time management skills
Takes pride in delivering a high standard of work
Compassionate and respectful when working in clients’ homes

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
Previous experience in disability support, aged care, community services or cleaning
Certificate III in Individual Support, Community Services or similar qualifications (preferred but not essential)

Essential Requirements:
Current National Police Check (issued within the last 6 months)
Valid driver licence
Reliable vehicle for transport
Ability to provide references from previous employers
Physically capable of completing cleaning tasks, including lifting, bending and standing for extended periods

Highly Regarded:
Working with Vulnerable People registration (or willingness to obtain)
School Safeguarding check/training
NDIS Worker Screening Check
Completion of relevant NDIS modules (such as the NDIS Worker Orientation Module)
Availability during school hours and weekdays

✨ Update on the Easter Giveaway Winners ✨

The original winner of third prize doesn’t live in Tasmania and has chosen to pass on her prize, asking for it to be donated to a charity for kids in need

So tomorrow, I’ll be donating the prize to The Salvation Army in Burnie to help make Easter a little brighter for some local kids 🐣🫶🏻

I chose The Salvation Army because they supported myself and Marlee during a really difficult time, providing us with a place to live and even gifting Marlee Christmas presents when I wasn’t in a position to. Thank you Amber Parrant for allowing this to happen

The winners were originally chosen at random using a generator. However the first prize winner happened to be my partner Marcus Gee. To keep things completely fair for everyone Marcus has chosen to give up his prize, so I’ve moved the placements up
