Could YOU recognise the signs of this tiny pest?
At just 2 mm long (about the size of a sesame seed), the Polyphagous Shot-hole Borer (PSHB) is easy to overlook. Yet this tiny invasive beetle has the potential to attack hundreds of tree species, causing branch dieback and, in many cases, tree death.

While PSHB has not been detected outside the Perth metropolitan area, our national response to this tiny, highly destructive pest is transitioning from eradication to long-term management by the end of 2026, after experts have determined national eradication is no longer technically feasible. As a result, informed community members will be more important than ever in helping slow the spread of this highly destructive invasive pest.
