How fascinating!

Samuel Bean married Henrietta Furry in 1865, but she sadly passed a few months later. He then married Susanna Clegg, but she too passed not long after in 1867. Bean erected this gravestone for them with this cryptogram on it. The puzzle was not solved until 1947, but over the years the original stone has greatly weathered. A replica was created of a sturdier material so that anyone can still try and solve the puzzle on their own.

This beautiful ornate monument was filthy, covered in dirt, moss and lichen. Although we still have more to do, this is a step in the right direction. The lettering in the stone is very delicate and hard to read. Hopefully one day it will be restored to its former glory.

If only graves could talk! I can only imagine what sort of lives they each lived and what stories went with them when they passed!.
Do you make time for your loved ones? When did you sit with your Grandparents, Parents, Aunts & Uncles and talk to them about their lives? How did they grow up? What's their favourite memory from childhood? So many questions to ask!
