The Best Networks Aren't Built on Business Cards

We've all heard the saying, "It's not what you know, it's who you know."

But perhaps the better question is... How well do those people actually know you?

The strongest business networks aren't built by collecting contacts. They're built by consistently showing up, getting to know people, understanding their businesses, and finding ways to help.

The referrals that make the biggest impact rarely come from someone you've just met. They come from people who genuinely understand what you do, who you help, and the value you bring. However, when you've met them through a trusted network, that can also change the story.

Great networking isn't about making a sale today.

It's about building enough trust that, when an opportunity arises months from now, your name is the first one that comes to mind.

At BNI Gateway, we see that happen every week. Business owners invest time in relationships first, and the referrals naturally follow.

What's one relationship that has made a real difference to your business? We'd love to hear your story.

Another Thursday, another room full of connections, learning and opportunities at BNI Gateway!

This week's Feature Presentation was delivered by Corrina Steele from Triumph Business Solutions - Visibility & Credibility , who challenged us to think differently about how customers choose a business and to consider if a business is Hiding in Plain Sight. The message was simple: being great at what you do isn't always enough if people can't easily find you, trust you and choose you. Corrina shared practical insights into how businesses can strengthen their visibility, build credibility and create a stronger customer journey, reminding us that marketing isn't just about getting noticed, it's about making it easy for customers to say yes.

πŸ‘ Congratulations to our Notable Networkers, who continue to lead by example through their commitment to building relationships, supporting fellow members and helping businesses grow. Your consistency and generosity are what make our chapter so strong.

A special mention also to our Support Director, Anthony Kuluz, who is a regular face at our meetings, offering encouragement, guidance and support to our chapter. Pictured here with our newest member, Mish Daniel Revolve Commercial. It's fantastic to see Mish already embracing the BNI philosophy. In just her first month, she's already leading the charge by inviting visitors into the room and helping our chapter continue to grow.

Every week, BNI Gateway brings together local business owners who genuinely want to help one another succeed. Through referrals, education and trusted relationships, we're building more than businessesβ€”we're building a community.

If you're looking to surround yourself with positive, proactive business owners and discover how referral networking can help your business grow, we'd love to welcome you as a visitor.

Young Professionals: How Can You Network Effectively with Senior Leaders?

Walking into a room full of experienced business owners can feel intimidating.

But remember this...

Senior leaders aren't looking to be impressed. They're looking for people who are curious, genuine and willing to learn.

Ask thoughtful questions.
Look for common interests.
Share your own perspective.

Most importantly, don't underestimate the value you bring. Fresh ideas, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn often make a lasting impression. Networking isn't about experience. It's about building authentic relationships. That's something anyone can do.

Whether you're just starting your career or have decades of experience, you'll find business owners at BNI Gateway who are willing to share knowledge, support your growth and celebrate your success.

Visit a BNI Gateway meeting and see how structured networking can help your business grow. Message the page or email [email protected] to organise your visit.

The Biggest Networking Challenges (and How to Overcome Them)

Many business owners say the same things.

"I don't have enough time."

"I'm not great at networking."

"I never know what to say."

The good news?

Most networking challenges have simple solutions. Instead of trying to meet everyone, focus on having a few meaningful conversations.

Instead of networking only when you need something, build relationships consistently. Instead of collecting contacts, keep in touch with the people you've already met. Networking doesn't have to feel overwhelming.

Small, consistent actions build trust, and trust builds business. Great business relationships start with a conversation.
If you'd like to discover how BNI Gateway helps businesses build trusted referral partnerships, message the page or email [email protected] to arrange a visit.

How to Master Professional Networking

The best networkers aren't usually the loudest people in the room.

They're the people who listen.

They ask thoughtful questions.
They genuinely want to understand other businesses.
They look for opportunities to help before asking for help themselves.

Simple habits make a huge difference:

βœ” Listen more than you speak.
βœ” Follow up after meeting someone.
βœ” Introduce people who could help each other.
βœ” Stay in touch consistently.
βœ” Focus on giving value first.

At BNI Gateway, these aren't just networking tipsβ€”they're habits members practise every week.

Strong referrals begin with strong relationships. The best way to understand BNI is to experience it firsthand.
If you'd like to visit a BNI Gateway meeting and see whether it's a good fit for your business, send us a message or email [email protected]. We'd love to welcome you.

Everyone wants more referrals.

Not everyone is willing to earn what comes before them.

A conversation.

A relationship.

Trust.

A recommendation.

A reputation.

The best referrals don't come from great salespeople. They come from great relationships.

We refer businesses that we know are great through experience. It’s all a reflection on ourselves and our own business so trust must come first.

Build those, and opportunities will follow.

Where Are the Best Places to Grow Your Professional Network?

Networking opportunities are everywhere.

Industry events.
LinkedIn.
Local business groups.
Community organisations.

Each has value, but they all serve different purposes. While online platforms and casual meetups help you stay visible, and conferences introduce you to new people, a structured networking group creates something far more valuable. The ongoing relationships and accountability make all the difference.

Meeting the same professionals regularly allows trust to develop.

People learn what you do. They understand who you're looking to meet. They become confident recommending your business. That's why consistency beats occasional networking every time.

Curious whether BNI could help your business grow?
Come along to a meeting, meet our members and experience it for yourself. Send the page a message or email [email protected] to arrange a visit.

What an incredible morning at BNI Gateway Visitor Day!

The room was buzzing with energy as we welcomed a fantastic group of visitors, all curious to experience what makes our chapter such a valuable place to grow a business.

While many people first come along because they're looking for quality referrals and new business opportunities, they often leave talking about something just as importantβ€”the people.

BNI is about building genuine relationships with trusted professionals who celebrate your wins, support you through challenges, share knowledge, and genuinely want to see each other succeed. It's the camaraderie, accountability and sense of community that keeps so many of us coming back each week.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this morning and helped create such a welcoming atmosphere.

Our panel discussion, "What Every Property Owner Should Know (Before It Costs Them Thousands)," was packed with practical advice and real-world insights. Thank you to Brad Shipway for facilitating such an engaging discussion, and to our panellists Mitch Leach, Daniel Eisen, Jay Swindell, and Joshua Williams for generously sharing their expertise.

It was fantastic to see so many meaningful conversations continue well after the meeting had finished, a great sign of new relationships beginning and future opportunities taking shape.

If you've been thinking about visiting BNI, we'd love to welcome you to a future meeting and show you what our chapter is all about.

Send us a message or email [email protected] and we'll get you registered.
