Another big stage completed on this bathroom renovation! 🙌

After demolition uncovered a few surprises, we’ve been busy getting everything repaired, rerouted and prepared properly before the finishes start going in.

✅ New plumbing & drainage rough-in
✅ Pipework rerouted and secured underneath
✅ Core holes & waste locations completed
✅ Walls repaired and prepared
✅ Materials delivered upstairs — thank goodness for the forklift! 😂💪
✅ Waterproofing underway throughout the bathroom & wet areas 💧

And we’ve got to give a shoutout to our awesome clients! 👏

🪠 BUSY LONG WEEKEND FOR FASTFIX DRAINS! 🚐💨

It’s been a busy weekend with after-hours callouts, and as we finish off the long weekend with the Ekka Show Holiday here in Logan today, a massive THANK YOU to everyone who called and trusted us with their emergency plumbing. 🙏🏼💧

One of the weekend jobs was this leaking water main that had been causing problems on and off for some time.

Once the leak was professionally located, it was time for some good old-fashioned hand digging! ⛏️😅

And what we uncovered explained a lot…

⚡ The poly water main had been installed in the same trench as the electrical and NBN services.
🪨 Little to no separation or protective sand bedding.
💦 Dirt, rocks and large pieces of shale sitting directly against the pipework.
🔧 Evidence of previous leaks and repairs along the same section.

We carefully exposed the services, removed the rocks and debris, tracked down the damaged section and cut it out.

New pipework and fittings were installed, pressure tested and checked to make sure everything was operating correctly. ✅

This time, the repaired section was properly surrounded and covered with approximately 100mm of sand before backfilling and compacting. 👌🏼

After discussing it with the client, this repair is considered temporary due to the condition and original installation of the existing water service. A complete water-main upgrade is on the cards when future renovations are carried out.

But for now…

💧 Leak repaired
🚿 Water back on
👍 Client back on track!

🚛 Scheduled Maintenance = Fewer Emergencies! 💧🪠

Another scheduled maintenance visit completed on a block of units using our High-Pressure Water Jetter and CCTV Drain Camera. 👨‍🔧📹

This was our first time maintaining this complex… and boy, did we uncover a few surprises! 😲

✅ Kitchen drain lines were heavily built up with fat, grease and sludge. After a thorough high-pressure clean, they’re now flowing freely again.

😂 And then came the funny part…

What do you find in drains? This time… a couple of toy cars! 🚗🚙 Buried in fat and grease!

Looks like someone forgot… “Mate, you can’t park there!” 🤣

Now for the serious side…

During our CCTV inspection we discovered multiple sections of previous pipe relining work that, unfortunately, was not installed to an acceptable standard.

❌ The liner appears to be poorly saturated with resin.
❌ Sections appear to have been installed incorrectly.
❌ Excess material has been left inside the pipe, restricting flow.
❌ There is a risk the liner could eventually delaminate or fail.

It’s disappointing to see this, especially when clients have paid good money expecting a long-term repair.

This is exactly why scheduled maintenance and CCTV inspections are so important. They allow issues to be identified before they become expensive emergencies, helping property managers, body corporates and owners plan repairs rather than reacting to unexpected blockages.

After completing a full assessment, we’ve recommended:
✔️ Return every 6 months for scheduled jetting and CCTV inspections.
✔️ Continue monitoring the existing relining.
✔️ Plan for professional repairs to areas showing displacement and previous defective work before they become major failures.

The good news? 👍

💦 All drains have been cleaned, inspected and are flowing freely.

We’ll see you again in six months to keep everything running the way it should!

Another fun day on the tools! 🛠️🚿

Back on the bathroom renovation today… and somehow we managed to drag LC out of the office for the day! 🤣

I reckon she thought she was coming for a nice cruisy day… instead she ended up helping unload a trailer full of demolition rubble at the tip! 😂💪

Not exactly glamorous… but that’s the FastFix Drains way. When there’s a job to be done, we all jump in and get it done together. Teamwork makes the dream work! 🙌

Day 3 of the Bathroom Reno… 🔨🚿

Another big day on site and we’re one step closer 💪

✅ X-ray completed – all clear! No power cables in the slab and no structural issues where the new penetrations were needed.
✅ Core holes drilled successfully and exactly where we wanted them.
✅ Ready to relocate the plumbing, install the new stack work and rerun all the hot and cold water pipework properly.

Every day on this project has uncovered something new, but that’s exactly why experience matters. We don’t take shortcuts—we investigate first, make a plan, and do it right the first time. 👌

And the best part? Our awesome client grabbed the pressure washer and jumped in to help clean up around the garage. 🙌 Teamwork really does make the dream work! Thanks for lending a hand.

🚧 Bathroom Renovation – Day 2 Complete! 💪🛠️

Another big day on the tools… and as expected with older homes, a few hidden surprises! 😅

This bathroom has had multiple water leaks over the years, and today we found out exactly why…

🔎 Once we removed the old concrete tile mortar bed we discovered:
💧 Hot and cold water pipes buried directly in the concrete slab with no lagging or protection.
🔨 The shower mixer had literally been mortared into the wall and held in place with nails!
🚰 Previous leaks had already forced someone to abandon part of the cold water line and reroute it through the garage.
❌ The shower waste wasn’t even glued together, allowing water to leak underneath the shower hob, through the mortar bed and into the garage.

This is exactly why a proper renovation is worth doing. 🙌

Instead of covering over problems, we’re fixing them properly.

✅ New hot and cold water pipework
✅ Secure and correctly mounted shower mixer
✅ Lagged pipework to protect it
✅ New compliant drainage and floor waste
✅ Existing slab penetrations sealed
✅ Walls rendered and vent boxed out
✅ Waterproofing ready to begin once all rough-in work is complete

Today wasn’t just demolition… it was preparation.

We measured and marked out every fixture location, ready for slab X-ray, core drilling and pipe relocations tomorrow. Every step now means the finished bathroom will be built to current standards and give the client peace of mind for years to come. 👌

Happy Chooseday!! 😎☕❄️

A fresh little 8°C this morning… definitely not my favourite! 🥶😂 I’d much rather be chasing summer than wearing layers.

But today, I’m making a choice.

I’m choosing not to let the cold dictate my attitude. Coffee in hand ☕, positive mindset 💪, and ready to tackle whatever today throws my way.

Life is full of things we can’t control… but we always get to choose how we respond.

🚿 Bathroom Renovation – Day 1 | Preparation is Everything 👷‍♂️💪

Every quality renovation starts before the first tool is lifted.

This morning was a quick trip to Bunnings to grab floor protection, wall protection, dust barriers and everything needed to protect our client’s home before demolition even began. Looking after your home is just as important as the plumbing itself. 🏡

Once everything was protected, we isolated the water supply and removed the existing vanity, toilet, shower fittings, taps and accessories, ready for demolition.

Then came the fun part… the jackhammer! 🔨

Being an older double-brick unit, you never know what you’ll uncover until the first tile comes off. Unfortunately, the shower tiles pulled the render off the walls, and we discovered the shower hob was solid mortar, concrete and brick. Out came the jackhammer!

We also uncovered a random copper pipe buried through the mortar bed—another surprise we’ll investigate, cap off and pressure test tomorrow.

Most of the demolition is now complete. Tomorrow we’ll finish the jackhammering, X-ray the slab, and prepare for core drilling, relocating the plumbing, installing new puddle flanges, drainage and stack pipework.

A few unexpected surprises… but that’s renovation life! The important thing is solving the problems properly and keeping the project moving forward. 💪

Not the result we were hoping for… 😬🏉

A tough night watching the Broncos. Losing Reynolds in the first five minutes certainly didn’t help, and from there it was always going to be an uphill battle.

But footy is about more than just the scoreboard. It was a fantastic night catching up with some of our awesome FastFix Drains clients. Great company, plenty of laughs, and we truly appreciate the support you continue to show our small family business. 🙏🏼❤️

Thank you for backing FastFix Drains. We never take it for granted.

As for the Broncos… well… it looks like September has just freed up! 🤦🏽‍♂️😂
