Only those who have faced the demons of waking up every day wishing they could disappear, no longer exist, forget every painful memory and somehow erase themselves completely, can truly understand the torture that severe depression can become.
Some people make it through to the other side. Sadly, far too many never do. Some of us are still fighting, and some are hanging on by the smallest thread imaginable.
I’ve been fighting for a long time.
There are days where I genuinely feel like I have given up, but I’m still here right now, so I guess somewhere inside me I haven’t completely given up yet.
Every day can feel dark. Every day can feel lonely. And feeling like there is nobody around you who truly understands just how hard you are fighting inside is an incredibly hard thing to carry.
I’m holding onto the tiniest bit of hope that somehow I can get through these demons and that my kids can still have the life I always wanted for them.
That hope has been tested more than I can explain. My children and I have already lived through DV, normalised abuse and things I fought so hard to finally remove us from, only to then face another long and painful battle that continues to affect all of us.
Add CPTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma and loneliness on top of that, and sometimes finding a reason to keep fighting feels almost impossible.
But I’m still here.
So I’m walking.
I’m walking for myself.
I’m walking for my children.
I’m walking for my best friend who never got to see the other side.
I’m walking for every person who wakes up every day fighting a battle nobody else can see.
And I’m holding onto the hope that somewhere beyond all of this darkness there is a more peaceful life waiting.
Because if I can somehow get through this, I want to keep helping other people who feel this pain understand that they are not alone, and that maybe there really can be another side.
This is why I’m walking out of the dark and into the light. 🤍
I'm walking in Out of the Shadows for Lifeline to ensure no one has to face their darkest moments alone.
