Reviews like this remind us why we love what we do.

Noises in the roof can be unsettling, and the cause isn't always obvious.

Effective mouse control focuses on more than the mice themselves. It means finding the entry points and conditions that invite them in, which is especially valuable for homes near farmland, where field mice are a seasonal reality.

Thank you, Denver, for sharing your experience. Well done to Thomas for taking the time to point out areas worth watching.

Every property is different, which is why expert advice is so valuable.

🏑 The best way to keep pests out of your home? Start on the outside.

In this Reel, we take you around the exterior of an Adelaide home for a general pest treatment.

We work along the walls, around the windows, and especially around the trash bins, where pests are drawn to food and moisture before finding their way inside. πŸ—‘οΈ

Our general pest treatment targets spiders, moths, cockroaches, earwigs, silverfish and plenty of other creepy crawlies.

German cockroaches are the one exception, as they need a different approach. πŸͺ³

As the weather warms up, these pests get more active around the outside of homes, so it's a good time to stop them before they reach the inside. πŸ•·οΈ

🎧 Turn the sound on for a close-up, ASMR-style look at the treatment.

Did you know bird nests beneath solar panels can become a fire risk?

Birds nesting under solar panels may seem like a simple nuisance, but dry nesting material packed around wiring can raise the fire risk if an electrical fault develops.
Adelaide's hot, dry summers make it more of a concern.

Panels can reach very high temperatures, and dry twigs and grass beneath them are easily ignited.

Nests can also block airflow and trap moisture and mites once the cooler, wetter months arrive.

Professional bird proofing mesh keeps birds out while still allowing proper airflow around your system.

If you've noticed birds nesting under your panels, Tom's Pest Control can help with professional solar panel bird proofing across Adelaide.

🐭 In many of Adelaide's hillier and character-home suburbs, retaining walls are a common backyard feature, and technician James puts one to good use here to anchor a rodent bait station.

He feeds the wire through the back of the station, threads a washer onto it, then bends the wire back over to hold it secure.

The bait goes inside, and the station is locked shut before it's placed, keeping it safely out of reach of pets and kids.

This one goes right behind the bins, since bins are one of the biggest rodent attractions in any yard.

To finish, the chain is screwed directly into the retaining wall, so the station stays fixed in place no matter how much activity happens around it.

It's this kind of secure, deliberate placement that Tom's technicians use on every rodent job.

πŸ‘€ Watch James set up the station step by step.

Are your bins tucked into a corner like this one, or kept further from the house?

Spider webs often reappear in the same spots year after year, which
usually means the spider itself never actually left.

During a spider inspection, our experienced technicians check the usual
web locations, but also look further, including roof voids, eaves, garden
edges, and other quiet exterior corners where spiders tend to settle undisturbed.

Identifying where spiders are resting, not just where their webs are
visible, is what allows treatment to actually address the source.

Spring's warmer weather tends to bring an increase in spider activity
around Adelaide properties, as both insect prey and spiders themselves
become more active.

Found a web in the same corner more than once this year? πŸ‘€

A possum in the roof, caught on camera. 🐾

We spotted a possum inside the roof space.

Our camera then caught it eating inside the cage, where it's safe eating and waiting to be released.

Our licensed, experienced technician will release it in the most humane way, in line with South Australian wildlife regulations.

Possums are protected native wildlife in South Australia.

On Adelaide's cool spring nights, a warm, sheltered roof space can look very inviting to them.

πŸ‘€ Watch the Reel to see the possum on camera.

Four termite myths we hear on almost every job. 🏠

Brick homes are safe. Termites don't eat brick, but they don't need to, tiny gaps around weep holes, mortar joints and expansion joints are enough to reach the timber framing inside.

Only old homes are at risk. New builds can be just as vulnerable, especially if the chemical barrier laid during construction was disturbed by later landscaping or extensions.

A general pest inspection covers it. Termite inspections use different tools and methods, moisture meters, timber sounding, sometimes thermal imaging- and aren't automatically part of a standard pest visit.

Chemical barriers last forever. Soil-applied termiticide barriers break down over time and need reinspection on a set schedule to confirm they're still working.

Which one of these four had you fooled? πŸ”

Heard scratching in the roof space picking up again lately?

Rat activity in and around homes often increases through spring as litters grow and food sources multiply outdoors. πŸ€

Rats breed year-round, but warmer weather and more available food and shelter- think garden growth, compost, stored rubbish- tend to support larger litters and more active movement between properties.

Common signs include dark, greasy rub marks along beams or skirting, gnawed materials, and droppings near food sources or nesting spots.

Tom's technicians place tamper-resistant bait stations and also identify the entry points and conditions drawing rats in, rather than just treating the symptoms.

🐜 HOW FAR CAN A BLACK ANT TRAIL SPREAD?

Once a colony gets established, a black ant trail can travel much further than most people
expect.

In this Reel, our technician Dave follows a trail starting with ants feeding on a worm in the
garden, tracking it along the fence line, across the garage floor, and through gaps around a
window into the house.

This species can operate with multiple queens and nests, and on this Adelaide property, with its
generous suburban block, Dave finds colonies tucked between garden beds as well as in the
gaps between floor tiles.

That's what makes DIY treatment tricky: knocking out one nest still leaves the rest of the
network active.

Our experienced technicians trace the full trail and nest network, not just the ants you can see.

Noticed ant trails along your fence line or windowsills lately? πŸͺŸ
