UPDATE: PORT ADELAIDE - THREAT REDUCED

The ongoing hazardous material incident is now safe.
MFS remained on scene throughout the night monitoring the site using thermal imaging and atmospheric monitoring, as well as to manage residual risks associated with the stored sulphur.
Crews are satisfied there is no ongoing risk to the community.

UPDATE: PORT ADELAIDE

Emergency Services have made significant progress at the structure fire and hazardous materials incident at the industrial shed on Moonta Road, Port Adelaide.
The emergency evacuation message for the Port Adelaide area is no longer in effect, however an Advice message remains in place while emergency services continue to monitor conditions and assess the site overnight.
While conditions have improved considerably, people in the immediate area should continue to stay informed and exercise caution, particularly if they have existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
Burning sulphur can produce irritating fumes that may affect the eyes, nose, throat and respiratory system. Although smoke impacts have reduced, people who experience symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing, eye irritation or headaches should seek medical advice. Anyone experiencing severe breathing difficulties, significant eye irritation or other serious symptoms should call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
As a precaution, residents near the incident are encouraged to:
• Keep doors and windows closed if they notice any residual odour or smoke.
• Use air conditioning on recirculate mode where available.
• Bring pets inside if smoke or odours are detected.
• Monitor family members, particularly young children, older people and those with existing health conditions.
• Avoid the immediate area around the incident and follow any directions from emergency services personnel.

MFS has issued an updated Emergency Warning Message, extending the evacuation zone.
Anyone located within the boundary of the Port River, Port River Expressway, Hanson Road and Club Road extending to the Port River should leave immediately. See comment section for image of updated exclusion zone.

Incident update – Port Adelaide
Emergency Services are responding to a structure fire and hazardous materials incident at a large industrial shed on Moonta Road, Port Adelaide.
The shed is currently being used to store sulphur.
The fire is contained within the shed, but heavy smoke is currently issuing in a South East direction, however the wind direction may change. MFS advise people in the vicinity to close windows, doors and be cautious of smoke.
MFS remain at the scene and are working to extinguish the fire and manage the hazardous materials risks.
MFS issued an Emergency Warning Message, advising people within a 1-kilometre radius of Moonta Road, Port Adelaide to leave immediately - see comment section for image of updated exclusion zone.
People are advised to follow directions from emergency services, avoid the area and keep away from the smoke.
