Ofcourse...I'm always on the lookout for overperformers during our training...those who just want to convince me. But...they are some ladies where you can tell that this woman never got this skill overnight...they are just hardworkers. Do I get tempted to get them myself?..absolutely...but my ba Lucy has me under strict surveillance so ndai bwelamo fye neka. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Unless you can honestly verify the real reasons for your current worker's departure (no matter how long they have been with you), never suggest an introduction from the old to the new..hoping for a smooth transition. Accept that you must start afresh entirely to avoid disruptions.Our motto to our trainees is, "Why did she work that long if the boss was as bad as she says?".

The main observations I have had so far that seem to contribute to workers leaving...

1. Existing maids not creating a conducive environment.

2. Dependants ( or frequent family). These are mini bosses and in reality...how can a worker report your own relative?

3. Meals...standard basic meals. The physical hard working worker we seek needs energy. This may seem obvious but trust me...it's not.

4. Lack of rest especially for Living in help. Waking up early hours and sleeping late. Again, this may seem obvious right? Exhaustion ruins morale no matter how well paying the job is.

5. Shockingly...it's not What you say..it's How you say it. If your boss at work can't say it to YOU, then don't say it to your Helper.

And yes..I am fully aware, that with us that received worser experiences before despite being good employers (and trust me..we are many)..a post like this can be highly triggering. Sis,this isn't for you or me...it's for the others 👀

Mindset is everything. Our trainees travel for far...they arrive with no upfront fees, full board (3 meals daily), and accommodation nearby. Training runs 3 weeks between my sister’s place in Meanwood Ibex and mine in Avondale. We also offer counselling, handle medical emergencies, and pair it all with intense coaching...yes, the daily operational costs can surprise you 😀, but we were adequately prepared when we started.

With rising living costs, this support for our trainees is a lifeline. So one method that seems to work for us is we take a little more time to understand each trainee’s background and personality. Trust is we are steadily growing and more trainees continue to walk through our doors.

Our Code of Conduct is strict we’ve let a few go over alcohol related incidents dishonesty, or teamwork issues. But client feedback and overall results keep us excited to grow and empower more women toward financial independence.
